Default iron block crank?

planning on doing a 4XX build. with a recently ordered 6.0 block. Need crank suggestions, or is a factory 6.0L crank good enough? i dont think i want it to be a stroker motor as it is still going to be a daily driven street car. (15 miles to and from work) and of course occasional track days.

this is a slow build after the machine work ill order up the crank. i just want to know what to start to look for and price out.

well if you are going 400+ then you need a new crank. So look at texas speed, speed inc, or any of the other sponsors to the right.

thats what i figured i would do. now i have to find a factory 6.0L crank. ill probably wait til i get the block back from the machine shop. this is a slow build so ill pretty much be buying a set of parts a month as paychecks allow. come oct. november ill be re-using a lot of stuff off the LS1... arp head studs and bottom end bolts, double roller chain, pushrods, etc. my ls1 has only about 2K on it. also i figure i can re-use most of it. sell the block, rods, pistons, heads, intake etc seperately and make up some of the cost ill be putting toward the motor.

wasnt there a guy on here that pushed a stock shortblock 6.0 to 1200rwhp? might have just been the crank & block, since it was a discussion about blocks. oh well, i cant remember. time to do some digging. anyways, stock crank should be good, but idk if you can make it a 4xx without a new crank.

that makes little to no sense (no offense), If someone can push a stock shortblock and crank to that power.... why wouldnt a 4xx CI motor only pushing around 500 hp be any different?

im already putting 585 rwhp to the factory crank in my LS1. im sure the 6.0L crank is no different. and if i chose to make this motor NA im sure it the factory crank would be able to handle that.....

I only know of MIGHTYMOUSE pushing 6.0 blocks in the 800 hp range. but i dont remember if it was an iron block or ls2

however with that said. im also debating a blower. so im curious how well a factory 6.0L crank or LS crank will handle a say a D1 or F1, maybe even MTI's roots blower. i wouldnt be pushing TOO much boost.... maybe just enough to net me 700+

I believe he's saying that you need more stroke to reach 400+ CI, so you cannot use any stock stroke crank.

ya, I thought you meant 400+ci not HP. There have been some really nice 370 builds on here that lay down some good power. you could easily take the stock crank to 1000rwhp, at that level something else is going to go before the crank.

I thought he was talkinbg 4xx hp. If he was talking 4xx ci then he will have to go with an aftermarket shaft.

My bad, i should have clarified, i was saying i dont think you can use the stock crank for 4xxCI, because it will not give you enough stroke for a 4xxCI motor, but the stock crank will hold up to some serious abuse and some high HP numbers. you can make 5xx rwhp no problem, im just saying you cant use that crank to make the motor a 4xxCI stroker. did i phrase it better/easier that time? sometimes i cant whats making perfect sense in my head to come out of my mouth/fingers.

a 370 Ci. is about the max for the stock crank with the 6.0 motor. if you want more cubes you will need a new crank and expect to shell out about a grand for one. or you can build a 370 and pick up a stock crank for about 50-75 bucks and then take it to the machine shop to get cleaned up and checked out and you will still be way below what a aftermarket crank will cost, but you won't be able to have the cubes.

If you are going with a supercharger down the road, I would build a 370, as the only replacement for displacement is boost. The grand you save can be put towards the supercharger. Thats what I would do if I were you.

You probably could get a little trick with it and offset grind the crank .100" and use a 2.00" rod. That could get you ~3.722" stroke, good for ~385ci, but I don't know how strong the crank will be then. Just a thought.
