799 vs 243
#43
I was at work the other day and was looking at the saab suv equivalent of the trailblazer ss and it had 799 heads. I was looking at my friends trailblazer ss and he had 243's. I thought that was kinda weird . I think you guys asked this already but i don't think there was a definite answer. Do you guys think the 243 valves are worth the extra money versus the solid stem of the 799?

Did the hollow stem/sodium filled valves only come on LS6 engines? Im thinking of buying a set of 243's that supposedly came from a corvette with an LS2 engine. Any way to tell visually?

True, but still its like $308 vs $440 for 243's. Thats a good difference for the same head minus the valves. Ill probably just go with the 799 and get them cnc ported locally if it's not too expensive. Atleast the solid stems will be stronger, but I'd still rather have 243's.
I doubt you find many LS6 243s for $440. They'll usually run around $500-600.

Well, I think most people think of 243's as hollow/sodium filled but whatever. Well, I found that price off a gm website so....ya. But I work for a dealership so I don't have to go through them. Just use it as a reference. Satisfactory?

Dead thread I know but I didn't want to start up a new one.
I have one 243 head and one 799 head in my garage. I also have all the valves and lifters from the full set of 799's (one is good, one dropped a valve). My questions are:
Can I run one 243 and one 799? (someone above said they had seen it before)
Can I put my leftover valves and lifters from the damaged 799 onto the 243? There doesn't seem to be any damage to them.
I'd might have them milled and ported eventually, maybe not though. I like the PRC 2.5 5.3's but they are out of my budget for now. The car has a 228R in it with full boltons.

I have a 2006 5.3 HO and it has 799 heads on it. My question it has anyone done a port job on these head to see the improvements? I found a professional shop who wants to run thier CNC program on them to get DYNO numbers with fuel injeciton and with a carb. They are interested in building and selling this engine combo as a performance upgrade. Sound like it is going to be a great deal. What have you noticed from having 243 or 799 ported?

I bought a 2006 TBSS engine with a 799 on one side and a 243 on the other straight from the car no mods both had the yellow LS6 springs. Took them to Patriot in Alabama and they used the same CNC program for both. They said the only difference is the way they are cast. They are the SAME head...

243 heads on 09 Sierra.
I'm going to try and buy some used heads from the bone yard (ie: junkyard), port the heads from the bone yard, and swap them with what is on my truck.

Just to refresh, guys, 799 and 243 heads are IDENTICAL except for casting method.
