question on fresh motor
question on fresh motor just freshened up my motor and went to start it last weekend and my oil pressure is up the roof. its reading like 80 psi. could it be a bad sensor. i have a tsp ported oil pump. just a cam only car. what do u think am i ok. i havent really let the car run for while cuz i get paranoid about the oil pressure
Happened on mine. I've got a melling 296 pump. When I first started it, it was was just about pegged the guage. New sending unit. I've got about 8k miles on it now and it sits about 45-50 at hot idle and 75-80 WOT.

Verdad Gallardo What did you set your bearing clearances to? That's probably why it's higher if the sensor is new and working correctly. If that's actually how high it is there's really no problem. Oil pressure is a very good thing lol.
well just wanted to make sure cause i have read that guys here have problems getting oil pressure on start up and i had mine really high. i had just put new bearing from clevite. i didnt really do much just bought new bearing cause my crank was still good and put new one's on to stock spec.
You could have just gotten cash from the ATM and burned it, at least you would have had some warmth to show for your investment.
Next time at least use PlastiGage and get a decent clearance measurement on all the mains and rods.
Sounds like maybe you didn't measure clearances.

everything was checked with a plasti guage. everything was done to factory spec cause the whole bottom end is stock. so i dont know where ur getting that i didnt use a plasti guage. y would i do a fresh build and not check for clearance. every rod and mains were dead on to spec.
Clearance specification is a range, not an integer value.
If you've put a few miles on it, might be a good opportunity to remove the oil filter, cut it open, and spread out the filter media to look for metal flakes.
What kind of engine assembly mube was used? Lubriplate and other assembly lubes are thicker to maintain an adequate oil film until startup. Your pressure could drop a bit after you reach operating temperature, perhaps even more after you drop the break-in oil. As long as you aren't pegging the needle (pressure relief appears to work) you should be fine.
