Default need advice ASAP: 918's vs. patriot golds

I have a cam and bolt on LS1 that i'm doing valvesprings on... current setup:

the usual bolt ons
LG G5X1 cam (228/232 .588 .574)
Crane dual springs w/ titanium retainers
7.4 pushrods

should i stick with dual springs rated at .650 lift and get the golds? or go to a single .600 lift spring and get some 918's? are the dual's overkill?

PS. if i did go to a single spring, I would need new, or stock diameter retainers, correct?

Stock weight valves I assume. What RPMs are you planning on running? Yes you will need new retainers with the bee hives. Whats wrong with your present springs. I would stay with the dual type, youll save money on the retainers. They are a little over kill for your set up. Have you thought about PAC springs. They are the best money can buy.

well money is def. a factor for me... and the main reason i'm doing springs is because i NEED new valve seals, so i figured i'd knock them both out at the same time. and the springs i have now have about ~35k miles believe it or not...

stock valves

the PRC and patriot gold spring kit comes with new retainers, locks, valve seals, etc for $255... that might be my best option

A lot of people run the 918's on the MS3 cam. I believe they are good to .625 lift. I will be runnning them with my new cam combo.

$123 isn't bad for the .600 lift PAC1218..... lol, or $188 for the PAC1518. And you can use stock retainers, locks on them.

The "new" batch of 918's is rated to .625 lift. I've pushed a set to .620 with no problems, but I wouldn't advise it on a daily basis.

If you're on a budget, the 918's will be perfectly fine with that cam. Yes you'll need stock retainers, locks, and seats.

^^^I have never pushed those springs to that high before. I have seen them consistantly pushed to around .609 with no issues.

i must have been looking somewhere else... i saw crazy numbers like $600 lol.

i'll see if i can find a 918 kit with everything included, all i've found so far is just springs by themselves, in which case i'd spend more money peicing together my own 918 kit rather than just getting the complete patriot kit.

I had brand new 918s float on a patriot 226/226 .585/.585 that were installed at the rated seat pressure which I had a very reputable shop in my area install for me.

Go overkill, and don't look back. That dual spring almost completely assures you won't drop a valve if one ever happens to break as well.

I would tend to believe that those were the old 918's they have been redesigned and now have a higher lift tolerance.

Was only about a year ago, but yes they were a good batch of .600" rated ones.

Stick with new duals or, have your old springs tested. Buy the best spring that you can afford. It is one of the most stressed parts in an engine. Dual springs won't keep you from dropping a valve if a spring breaks. I wouldn't trust comp springs or patriot springs on my car. GM, Manley,PAC are the best in my opinion. The 1221's are a great choice.

I just installed pat golds, its a good deal for 255 springs and titanuim retainers.

Plus i remeber reading about some bad batches for the 918s back in the day.

Im only running 220-224 cam but I figured better to be safe then sorry. Plus I want to be able to bring my ls6 to 6600 without any issues.

I just finished the install yesterday so I havent got to open it up yet.
Think tonight Im going to open her up.
