I just got hosed buying a cam on e-bay. Guy said cam was in great shape with only 10k miles. One lobe is just thrashed. Man I'm pissed. I now have a giant paper weight. Lesson learned. His ID? hvillesrt4

The potential for getting scammed buying anything on Ebay is always there. That guy has a pretty low feedback rating. Have you contacted the seller? Did you pay with paypal, and if so have you opened a dispute?

I'd play the Poweball before I bought anything off of Ebay. Do you know what the odds of winning the Powerball are? More than 10 million:1. That should tell you something about Ebay. Most pawn shops sell the stuff they can't get rid of in their stores on Ebay. Why would you buy something as important as a camshaft on Ebay when there are so many sponsors right on this site. Sure LS series parts are expensive. How about $700 for a Meziere electric water pump. Talk about overpriced, but if you want to play you have to pay otherwise go back to a GenI 350 small block. They just about give those parts away.

I sell parts on ebay and I always give a 3 to 7 day money back guarantee. I always make sure to post pics and I always tell everyone to ask questions before bidding. I myself when I buy ask if there is a money back guarantee, and for extra pics. I have had to file a couple of disputes but it has been resolved satisfactory. Engine parts I only buy from an ebay direct retailer. Used parts your running a chance and if you buy a part that is stated to be "As Is" then you buy as is.

Nothings wrong with buying used things because people buy stuff have it on there car for a week and are not completly satisfied with it and go bigger or better so would you say thats crazy to buy a week old part for less than half the price?you just have to be careful who you buy from, check their feedback and stuff like that.

I bought a used cam(not on Ebay) which has now been in 3 different engines. It started out in a 6.0 liter. When the owner wanted to go bigger. He sold it to me($200) and I put it in a 5.3 liter. It was in the original box with the cam card. I had it in my hands so I could look at the lobes and journals before I laid down my hard earned cash. When the 5.3 was wrecked I pulled that cam out and put it in a 4.8 liter. It has been in there for nearly 3 years and runs like a scalded dog. Nothing wrong with used parts, but buying a cam on Ebay? That's not for me. I'm sittin here scratchin my head trying to think of what engine parts I WOULD buy on Ebay for an LS series. So far I'm drawing a blank.

Lesson learned, I suppose. I don't have a problem buying e-bay internal parts for a mostly stock motor if they are in fact described accurately. I'm filing a dispute with Paypal.
