Pulling it from the top really isn't that big of a pain. My cousin and I did it this summer on my 99 z28. We just took off the front drive accesories and the intake and she came out with little effort. I put her back in the same way and it took maybe 30 minutes, not really sure what everyone was complaining about, haha!
This is how she sat:
and this is how she came out:

i pulled longblock"ls1" trans"65e" as an assembly out the top and went back in ironblock/tranny assembly mated yogether....just like I have always done on other cars.....never figured why anyone pulls them out the bottom.....
when we done my rod bolts in the ls1 the k member was dropped....wasnt bad at all to do but dropping the whole drivetrain out the bottom just doesnt appeal to me at all...damn if you had to move the car you would have to bolt the bare member back in anyway.....

YEA it's DONE!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!
Got everything back together today. Turned it over a couple times to circulate the oil then installed the fuel fuses back in and it fired right up. My water pump decided to leak I guess from sitting on the shelf for 2 months. So I will replace it tomorrow and send it off Monday to get tuned. This was my first complete engine rebuild from top to bottom.
This has meant alot to me rebuilding this engine. I found my father dead in his house from a heart attack April 21st at the age of 51. My father is the reason why I like fast cars and turning wrenches. Working on this engine made me think about him and all the good times we had together.

Looks good man! Gotta do mine near spring as soon as the new motor is in. Sorry about your father...mine passed when I was 18 about 8 years ago and he got me into cars too. I still remember the 68 rs/ss camaro he had with the protecto plate and everything. 327/powerglide in mint condition...wish that car was still around

Here is the post of PM's we exchanged Clint in case you lost it. I still have not gotten that $100 you promised me. https://ls1tech.com/forums/negative-...aka-clint.html
Btw, if you look at the post above you RMS-MAN (joshua) he will be more then happy to tell you about the damage as he helped me fix it. BTW it's on the bottom it cant be seen from the top. It's where the bottom of the TB screws onto the intake.
