Kinda new to the ls1 thing. I have a LQ4 With iron heads and dished pistons. I'm trying to build this on a very tight budget. My question is how much potential do these iron heads have, I tried searching but info on these are hard to find. I have thought of a set of 241's because I can pick them up very reasonable. The rest of the build is: Gutted 88 S10, No power steering or brakes, 4.56 spooled 8.8" ford rear, 4200 stalled th350 w/T brake, caltracs. and the engine will be using a victor jr carbed intake with a rupert HP950 holley. I would really like 400+ plus RWHP with the stock short block. I will change the valve springs and pushrods, and have a custom cam spec by texas speed or vengeance or someone. Any help with cost effective heads would be awesome! thanks.
What's the casting number on the heads? If they're the ones I'm thinking of, they are just like the 317's, which are a pretty decent head. However, finding an aluminum version of the same head would be easy, cheap, and save a few pounds. Might even be able to run more compression with the aluminum version too.
The last three digits are 875 and I have not been able to find anything about them. I was thinking of the 241 to raise the compression, but if these heads have the same ports as the 317's I was afraid I might end up losing power going with the 241's.

really not worth messing with those heads, when u can go with some alum 317 or 243/799.
i have set of those iron heads, and was going to use turbo, but the decks are thin and they are very heavy. so didnt make sense to spend on them.
i reccomend a set of 234/799 which are the same thing as ls2.
same design as 317 but smaller chamber.
i have set of 799 fs, if interested pm
