You are thinking about the 317''s with a roughly 72cc chamber....... 799's are essentially a 243 head 64cc.....

317 heads are truck heads. They are 72cc instead of 64cc.A lot of guys with blowers use them because they are 72cc and drop your compression a point. Some people mill them down to 64/63 cc ,port them and install bigger valves.I have seen them milled to 63cc and milled on the intake side and selling on the classified section on this forum sometimes. In that form they are similar to the 243 heads.I tried to explain it to you without confusing you.I have seen them for about $300.00.It might be easer for you to get 243 heads.

haha yeah i got it i think! lol ok so the 317s are just another differnt kind of truck head with a bigger chamber? do they have bigger valves already or do you have to macheen those?

how close are they to the 799 and 243 heads?

the 317's are identical for all intensive purposes to a 243/799 except that the 317's have a 71+cc chamber(lower compression). as far as valve size, a stock cid motor can make good power on stock sized valves

243 heads FTW hands down best dollar for dollar head out there. For a good budget CNC head try TSP's stage 1.5 243's.

As far as I know most of them if not all are aluminum. It all depends on your budget. Used low mile 243's are the best bang for the buck.If you can swing it a set of PRC LS6 or Patriots would be even better. How much money do you want to spend? How fast do you want to go?

the best cam to run with stock 243's is a 300/310 755/770 on a 99lsa. seriously the best cam is one that matches your ENTIRE setup and the desired use of your car. if you do some research on here you can find some good info on setups that have worked for other people

I don't know if it's been said yet, but some LS2 Corvettes came with 799 heads. They were not just on the trucks.

I paid $120 for my 799 heads.... can you say BUDGET? hah Now they're taking up space on my workbench.

I'll have right at $1000 in my head cam swap but I'm reusing my stock oil pump and the heads were so cheap. ARP head bolts are a big chunk to the cost.

If you do the install yourself, yes it can be done easy for under $1000. (If you can find a good deal on 243/799 heads) But don't forget the tune

Texas-Speed had some great cams on sale for $300, I got some pushrods I'll sell you It's all about finding good deals.
