went out to start my car the other day, heard a loud pop and it died, started it back up and shot antifreeze out the tail pipes. Finished engine removal today. after hoping for a blown head gasket i found a hole in the side of #5.got a couple questions. anyone had problems with the 2 prong bosch plugs comming apart? and now looking for ideas for rebuild under budget. anyone has any ideas i would appreciate the help.. Thanks

As long as you dont plan on spraying, I would just buy a stock rebuild kit.

I would upgrade the rod bolts while you have the motor out though.

i do believe that almost all ls1 parts will fit on a 5.3 or 6.0, not sure which parts wont.
the heads definately will. ive seen a 5.3 with a z06 cam in it.
also if this is guna be on the cheap, check ebay for the 5.3, they always have junkyards selling alot of them.

I have a 5.3 in my car, it all bolts up except the alternator, you have to drill and tap 1 hole in the block.

The 8.1 isn't a genIII so you will have hell trying to drop one in. Not to mention the size of the motor in a small F-body engine bay.

The 8.1 is heavy too. And it doesn't have the aftermarket support like Gen III motors do.

well would a lq4 bolt up to the t-56? im thinking Lq4 with L92 heads with the tr230 or just have my block fixed ls6 heads with the 230? which would be better?

an lq4 is a bigger iron ls1, transmissions are the same as long as its i think an 01+ block, before that there was a different length crank.

I put a new motor in a Maxima about two years ago from a Bosch plug coming apart. Just like yours.
