How large can you bore a 5.3 steel block and live?

it's iron not steel, and it's not worth it when you can get a 6.0 liter block cheaper than it would cost to bore the 5.3 block

It can be bored safely to 3.898-3.905(the same bore as an LS1 or 347 respectively). I've heard of people taking them further but I wouldn't recommend it.

I think the highest you can go with the lq9/4 block is 408 or maybe to 413 right?

You can go higher displacement with an iron 6.0L, like 427ci, but bore wise ~4.060" is generally thought to be the limit.

I was just talking about with the bore, not stroke, pistons, and deck clearances. But thanks for the insight.

Huh?

408ci and 413ci are both with stroke though, same as 427ci. 370-375ci are with bore only though. All of that has to do with pistons.

Sorry. I was horribly misinformed then.
