Default valve spring change????

I am changing my valve springs with the heads on the car I trying to do cylinder 3 but when I connect the air compressor I am losing all of my air through the exhaust pipe....can I do a bump start to get the piston to move so I can fill up the cylinder and finish changing the springs? Thanks

turn the motor over using a socket and ratchet on the crank untill the two valves for that cylinder are both closed. then attach air and you are good to go. must have valves closed for every cylinder to hold them with the air before you try to remove springs.

If you have the rockers off then both of those valves should be closed, if the rockers are off and air is still getting by then you have problems my freind.

Mike is right.. If the rockers are off, there should be 2 closed valves on that cylinder...

Here's what I did got the first couple changed no problems......had the rocker off and was gonna replace the spring but it was late so I called it a night and left spring kept air in the line so the valve would stay up can back from work and went back to replace the springs the turned the compressor on everything was good went to answer the phone and came back to the sound of air flowing out from somewhere eventually realized it was exiting out of the tailpipes rechecked my fittings and every since then have not been able to pressurize that cylinder to put the spring back on!!!! Closed is when the valve is fully up correct????? Oh yes both rockers are off

Never mind guys found the problem.....looks like one of the keepers wasn't seated correctly causing the valve not to completely close. Replaced and everything is good to go. Thanks again.

I was gonna say...with the spring still on and the rocker removed, there is no way the valve could be open...
