Default reuse or replace lifters?

I tore my newly acquired 62k mile LQ9 down to the shortblock this past weekend. Plan is to reuse the shortblock, replace valvetrain, cam, heads & intake. In any case, should I plan on new lifters or is it ok to reuse the stockers? I'm guessing that since they're roller lifters and not the old style flat tappet, that they're ok to reuse?

Yeah, they are ok to reuse. You could swap them with LS7 lifter though, for about 130 bones.

I would go ahead and replace also. I went ahead and upgraded to LS2 lifter trays at same time-which are replacement anyway.

IF theres nothing wrong as in no damage, go ahead and reuse them.
ls7 will require checking for correct pr length

If the engine is at 62,000 miles-besides a visual inspection. Is there a criteria on checking the lifter for spring pressure? Without oil to see how much it takes to compress it compared to a new one? And if there is a range to see if its getting to the end of its life? Just wondering?

I replaced mine in my LQ9 at 50k with Comp 850s, and I also grabbed some LS2 lifter tray reatiners as mentioned above. If one goes bad, its expencive to tear apart and replace lifters. So I just bought them up front for insurance.

If you are doing cam/heads etc I would go ahead and replace them. It will add a very small percentage to the total cost of your project, and give you peace of mind.

Piece of mind sounds like it's worth it to me... but what's so special about the LS7 lifters? Why do I want those instead of stock replacements or some aftermarket jobs?

I would probably replace them. At $129 for a set of LS7 lifters and the heads are going to be off, I would put a set in. Chances are the stock ones will be fine but it is always nice to have a new piece in the motor when going back together. Especially one as critical as a lifter. I like the LS7's and the Comp OE replacments (850) lifters both. I personally ran the Comp's and they worked great for me. We have both on the shelf! Let me know if you need a set!

So they're the same part number as the LQ9 lifters?
