I know this thread is old but I'm considering this camshaft LPE GT2-3 or possibly GT11 with 215/231 .631/.644" 118.5 lsa. But I'm wondering if they will pass smog? Can anybody confirm this?

It has -14 degrees overlap, if you are looking at the lift at .050", but would need to know duration at .005" to get actual overlap for smog. It does have some high lift,so you would need some great valve springs and check spring pressure every 10,000 miles or so

So does that mean the intake and exhaust have to be within 4 numbers of each other? For example ive been told that the tsp 224/224 cam WILL pass smog. Is that because they are within 4 degrees? Sorry for the noob question

No, that just happens to be the largest amount of valve overlap(-4*) that will most often allow your engine to still pass SMOG with a good tune.
Here's a easy way to find the valve overlap. Example: 221/224 115 lsa .
Add your intake and exhaust lobe .050" lift durations together, divide by two.
221+224= 445, 445 / 2 = 222.5 .
Now take your LSA and multiply it two, 115 x 2 = 230 .
222.5(Duration) - 230(LSA) = -7.5* overlap.
FYI, if the LSA is greater than the duration then the overlap is -negative.

Wow a lot of good info thanks guys! Now hearing about the new smog laws (not requiring the tail pipe test for 2000 and up cars) taking effect in January, I'll be okay with the cam I want!
