Default Installing Head Studs While Heads Are On The Car

Guys,

I am going to be pulling my heads in a few weeks to have some add'l work done to them. I have a set of studs that I want to install this time around.

Is it possible to pull one bolt at a time and install the studs so that I don't have to go through all of the trouble of cleaning the coolant out of the holes in the block? This may appear to be time consuming, but it took me a loooong time to get all of the coolant out last time.

Thanks,

Scott

Yes, it is possible to do this way, but you will probably take longer doing so than it takes just to remove the head and clean out the holes. Unless you really are just trying to save a head gasket from being replaced, I'd just pull the head off.

But you can do it. Cleaning the bolt holes didn't take me that long, I just stuffed some paper towels down there and left it overnight. Next morning I pulled it out and put some more paper towel and they came out dry. Took me maybe a total of 20 minutes to shove paper towel in there?
