Question Compression test results

Compression test results:

Cylinder PSI

8 - 150/175/180
6 - 210
4 - 175/190
2 - 205

7 - 215
5 - 205
3 - 190
1 - 220

According to the documentation I found on here in the FAQs, no cylinder should be below 70% of the highest cylinder, namely 154 psi. Is this still correct and accurate?

Cylinder 4 and 8 I did more than once, however I did not put a teaspoon of oil into the hole, because of the trouble getting the hose into the spark hole. I knew #8 would be a problem since it was such a pain in the *** to get back there.

Should I retest those cylinders with oil, or consider the results normal and move on?

make sure you run the engine for a few minutes before doing the test. I've done several compression tests and the first few cylinders would read 230psi then by the time i got to the last ones i was getting 190psi. So i started all over let the engine run again. This time i started with the cylinders that cranked 190psi and got 230psi. The reason i think this happened is cuz of the lifters bleeding down after several rotations of the engine thus causing the last few cylinders to read lower then the first ones you test.

The car hasn't been started in over a week....I was doing a pushrod check and decide to do this while I was there....so I don't think the time I took to check the first cylinders affected the delay I took to check the later cylinders....I don't think I will put the car back together again just to warm it up and pull it apart.....Took me forever to get the spark plugs out and get hte hose in....

Make sure you also hold your TB open while cranking the motor.

Damn...I tested mine cold and tested 225-230 in every cylinder. It would make me wonder if there was that much fluctuation. Do you spray, and how many miles?

230psi is alot. My high compression motor makes 225-235psi, are you on forged pistons?

No spray. About 7500 miles on her. Forgot to hold the TB wide open. Do these values sound bad??????

I will be doing headers some time in the near future so I will try again later, replace spary plugs, wires, ect, whilst I have the room. Thanks

Right now I am fiddling trying to get the dip stick back in.
