Default Help me with my new build!

First, let me start this out with my planning on doing this build 'cam only.'

Now, I would like to hit 10's, with this build as well. I have been doing some minor research, and here is what I think I might end up doing, possibly changed with some of your help.

Power adders:

Cam, headers, intake, (gears-if you want to count that)- and at the very end of the modding, I would like to spray the car as well.

Cam: Now I have been told that the T-Rex cam has been tried and true, kickass cam only cam. Also, I have been told it works well with nitrous too, what do you guys think, do I have a better choice than that?

Headers: I was thinking of going with coated pacesetters, any other ideas? These headers are cheap, and seem to work well...

Intake: I was originally planning on going with a FAST intake, but I was told that the T-Rex works best with the LS6 intake, is that true?

Since the car is a 6-speed, I was thinking of going with 4.10 gears.

Also, since we are on that topic, since forth gear is 1:1, around 6500rpm, with a stock sized tire, what speed would you be going with those gears/rpm?

Spray: Don't have much experience with it, but by the time I get around to finally spraying this car, I probably will have a decent amount of experience with it. 100 wet shot? I definitely need some guidance there.

Overall it should be a pretty good build. Thanks for any tips/info.

if 10's are your goal look in the drag racing section (10's) and see what it takes to go 10's. also what kind of car are you talking about? best bet is to see what others have done. pacesetter headers are an awesome budget header, also on the fast i think its over rated for stock heads and a little pricey imo. your going to need to look into supporting mods as well, beings your talking about a 6 speed, a clutch and a new rear are in your future, if your wanting 10's. and your also talking about a good suspension and tires.

Ditto

You are going to need to put a 15 rim with some Mickey Thompsons on to reach that goal. I am not sure anyone has made it there on a 10 bolt, so your definitley looking at a 12 bolt or Dana S60 to hold up. I doubt a 100shot will be enough. I am doing a 150 shot but over 175-200shot, back to supporting mods again lol.

You can use a gear calulator to figure it all out here is one http://www.richmondgear.com/101032.html

Have you found a car yet?

Haha, I know cam-only builds can run 10's, IDK if he is on this site, but there is a local, 'studderin' and he is NA, as mentioned, cam-only, and I personally saw him run a 10.66 at 128mph. His car is light though, but that is why I have the nitrous to back me up, to get me into the 10s.

Clutch, I will probably end up with a spec 3 or 4, but that is a ways down the road.

Rear end, I will prob go with a 9", but I have been told the 12 bolt is pretty good too, so I will decide when the time comes.

Tires, I am not worried about at the moment, I know, 15" rims, and get some MT ET drags, or some Hoosier QTP's.

Suspension, I will definitely need help with what to go with.

I do not have the car yet, but I am aiming to get an 01-02 TA, so I don't have to get the LS6 intake later on down the road.

I had a 98 TA with STOCK heads, Trex cam, QTP headders, LS6 inake, under drive pulleys, other free mods/bolt on cheap stuff. It had a 9" with 4.11 gears, full suspension, spec 3 clutch, 15x8 prostars with full slicks, skinnies up front, side stepping the clutch at 6k and it ran 11.67 @ 118.5.

That being said, it used to have spray on it before I got it and I saw it skull drag a bike on the street. He never ran it on the track with the spray but it was probably a good second faster on a 150 shot. So, yes, this cam is great for nitrous.

That's all I got for now. Good luck and keep us posted.

Now I have personally never been in a car with a T-Rex cam, but doesn't that cam rev out to like 65-6700ish? In other words if you weren't taking it up that high, you weren't getting the full powerband of the cam?

Wow, ok first a T-rex cam is a fun street cam with the right tune. I drove my car to Las Vegas from California and loved it. It comes on strong at 3500 till you hit the rev limiter. And yes a T-rex with nitrous will run 10s all day. My T-rex setup only ran 11.7 but i am at 8000 DA here in california after calculations. And the T-rex absolutely LOVES nitrous. A 150 shot with my T-rex gained 170/240 to the ground.

I'm not sure what my DA is but I am in Biloxi MS. For those who don't know their geography (trust me, I have to look at maps all the time) I am as south as you can go in MS. My 60ft. was a 1.74 so I was leaving a bit on the table. I put a turbo 350 in it later and the best I could get was a 1.78 with a 4K nitrous converter. It blew the engine before I had a chance to reinstall the shot.

I do know the shift light was set at 6800 and would still pull hard to the rev limiter at 7100.

Your right it can be done. We have one here (geovette) that ran a 10.9 cam only on spray. Those thing are whats needed to do it.

We have most of that stuff, the 9" or 12 bolt, suspension parts and we can do an amost identical cam. with the supporting mods (hardened pushrods, valvesprings, etc...) Let me know if I can help, be happy to put together a package deal if you like.

Sweet. Anyone else have anything to add to this? From what it sounds like, the T-Rex is a great cam, and I will probably end up with it.
