Default Rod bolt failure limit

When would the stock 2000 ls1 rod bolts start to fail? I have seen 500hp is that wheel horsepower, or is that at the crank? Or is the 500 word just throwen around? I am looking to do a set of heads that will push mine up towards that mark. Can anyone shine some light on this please?
Thanks

I can offer you this.My car has 150 1/4 mile runs on it shifting at 6900 and has not let go.I change oil after 25 runs Mobil 1 synthetic 5-30.If your gonna rev it that high make sure you install a good high volume oil pump. I am also a 2000.

There is no magic #, some make it, some don't. If the motor has been well maintained it will go the distance for awhile. I have spun my stock motor 7k for a good bit now. Car has 25k miles, so that helps as well. Miles and maintenance will go a LONG way. My car is a 02'.

I have seen connecting rod failures at 500 hp at the wheels, 420 on cam only with 85 shot hooked up. Shifting at about 6500.

Well I talked to my engine guy and he said rod bolts can be done in the car with a little bit of time. I guess I wil have to sleep on it and see what I come up with . Thanks for your input.

i have spun stock rod bolts to 7200 a million times . it has nothing to do with oil or what oil just that once in a while a engine lets go the the panic starts change the rod bolts

if you spin close to 7k or over **** can happen at any time. prob wont but may .

either own it and do it or stay on the porch is my take on it. i spin it and dont worry about it.

mine let go with only a handfull of times shifting at 7100. Rod bolt broke. But it had been shifted at 6800 hundreds of times before that with no issues.

The up-rated,

rod bolts (fitted after '99?) are good for up to 550 crank hp according to GMPP.

No rpm limit mentioned.

The new ones are grade 12.9 metric so that is:

minimum yield strength = 159541 psi
minimum tensile strength = 174045 psi

Compared to common Grade 8 bolts:

minimum yield strength = 130000 psi
minimum tensile strength = 150000 psi

ARP2000, LS1 rod bolts:

minimum yield strength = 180000 psi
minimum tensile strength = 200000 psi

finally somebody says it, its not about power levels, u could run 1500 hp on stock rod bolts if u dont spin it above 3500 rpm. stock bolts in my opinion should not be taken past 6500, if ur motor has enough intake work to even make power above 6500 then whats spendin a little more to put good rod bolts in? (fast-grand, rod bolts-around 100) i spun mine to 6700 and they let go. and i only took it there for about 1 month. keep it at 6

Well I was more concerned about the power level and the rod bolts going to the distance of reliabilty of them. But seeing as I don't spin my motor up that high I think I should be ok. :>

correct. if u keep the rpms down, the stock bolts should last a good while. even at 4-500 hp
