Default heads

when they stopped making the camaro did they use 243 casting heads on a few of them???? ive asked a few people and they both gave me diffrent answers... sorry if its dumb im just trying to figure out if the heads on the car are stock for it or not.. is there a way i can find out through the VIN#?

I am pretty sure they never put 243's on LS1's in Camaros. The only thing they did do is some later 02 models came with a LS6 block.

ls6 intake on all 01/02

none ever got ls6 heads....ever

my late 01 had an ls6 block, now it has a big hole in each side.

thanks guys

this car has 243 heads on it the guy has no records for the head or anything. he is the 3rd owner of the car so im guessing who ever had the car b4 him put the heads on it then..

heck yeah man, theres a decent upgrade right there! you should hit the dyno and see what happens!

i agree with whats said above! some had ls6 block in 01 (maybe 10%) and some in 02 (15%), but all 01-02 had ls6 intake!

No, 243s were never a factory installed head on the LS1.

hmm...i wonder if the engine was swapped to an ls6 crate due to some warranty type issue.

i agree 100 % !! take it to a dyno and see what she can put down for you . now i wonder if the previous owners may have slipped a LS6 cam in that motor as well. hhmmmm

my 98 has a LS6 block, previous owner messed up original motor and got a LS1 crate from GM. i started wondering when it had 241's on it, i ran the numbers on the back. 11561166---something like that last 2 are 66 or 68 cant remember, but its the number for 01LS6 block. something to look for i guess. its also a really hard number to read/find!
