They look like 918s, some set i've ran discolored to the same taint after use.
12K miles is about right for 918s, but they can go longer.
See your buddy knows nothing about install (ie properly installed at 1.800 height) and if preload was on the money. (falve float that can induce bad harmonics).
Those springs can also be brittle on cold starts and hammer action.

That is why there are proper procedures to installing valvetrain pieces and it is not just a matter of removing and dropping the new ones in.
Seeing that they went over 10k miles, I would not point the finger at manufacturing defect but more at either use or install.

There were some LS6 springs produced with a green stripe from what I have found but that wouldn't make much sense.

Predator, as far as him knowing about install procedures and valve train setup, no, he doesn't know how to do any of that. Like already mentioned, he purchased the car with the cam and springs already installed with about 2k on them.

I can tell you the car never saw ANY kind of rpms until thoroughly warmed up. Meaning that it's kept under 2k or so til warm. Breaking was NOT due to mis-use.

Was pre-load ideal? Was the installed height perfect? I do not know myself. I'd say that even though this doesn't make it "right", those springs were setting at the same height and the pre-load at the same specs as over 95% of people that purchased a TSP cam package, or most any vendors cam setups.

I'm not pointing fingers. A spring broke, the engine is done. I never said it was a defect, or that they were junk. I just wanted to share pics of the damage, not to create some type of scare about singles or about comp themselves.

Well all this talk about my car and this is my first post in here. It was just one of those fluke things, I had already beaten on the car two times previoulsy about 30 min before this happened. Now its time to make it better. Had plans for a moser 9 inch but now thats on hold.

my 918's broke with a .580 lift 224 cam. a buddy of mine with a GTO with a cam about the same size. also broke a spring.(918)

this was in the same town. both were installed by a good place (HPE and futral) .. i really dont think its the installers fault.

the way i see it .

comp owes me a new set of springs and retainers.

The duals are well worth it IMO.. For a 224 cam I would have gone PAC behive. But like Pred-z said if the install height is wrong that is the culprit... this is just bound to happen sooner or later....

Well, if nothing else, this thread should be a good reminder why proper setup and maintenance is critical when a performance cam is installed. Maybe a few more people will take the time to check for proper installed height, coil clearance, rocker geometry and lifter preload.
