Default LS6 HEads vs. LS1 Heads

I currently have a cam only car (TR230) that put down some nice numbers on stock heads. I have the opportunity to switch the stock heads with a set of stock 2003 Z06 heads.

Would this benefit me much if any at all or is it not worth the hassel of changing heads? and if so how much of a horsepower increase would I be looking at?

it'd be even better if you could get them ported . but just stock ls6 heads will be an improvement.

Stock LS6 heads work pretty well.

You'll see about 10-15 rwhp from the swap. Roughly ~1-1.5 tenths & 1-1.5 mph. If it's worth the trouble to you, go for it

Yup, and Damian knows this because he spends all his spare time at the track testing setups just like yours. Hes also tried LS6 heads on his personal car and found them to be worth an additional 10 to 15rwhp. Stick with him, he wont guide you wrong......

10-15 rwhp doesn't sound bad. Do you think I'll need to retune the car if I add the LS6 heads?

Does he "need" it?, No.

If he want's to get the most out of the new combination, it would definitely be worthwhile.

I did this recently on a cam only car and was dissapointed at first. The *** dyno did not feel anything till about 5k or so then it seemed to pull harder to redline. I could not do a track comparison because I did it after I did an A4 to M6 conversion.

there are slight flow differences in the ls6 vs. ls1 i think like 10-20cfm across the board, but the other main power factor is the 1/2 point of compression...this usually adds about half of that total gained.

Ls6 heads will be worth 10 hp over 241 castings and 15 hp over 853 and 806 castings, which is also the flow difference through the intake. The Compression increase will make very little increase in peak hp but will improve torque and throttle responce over the ls1 head, The ls6 chamber shape will improve throttle responce also.

Personally I would not waste my time. If your going to go to all the trouble to change heads then wait until you can get a good set of ported heads and bolt on 30 to 40 hp instead. That you can feel.

But if its a no dollar swap, get a pair of 853's for cheap somewhere and trade now! Then get the LS6 heads ported.

This is kinda what I planned on doing. I was just gonna swap my heads with the LS6 heads.
