LQ4 is the stock 6.0 motor and to make it a LQ9 it has different pistons and more compression. That's about all I know! Lol.

Sorry to hear about the v6 dying on you. The difference between the two is mainly the pistons, the lQ4 has a 7cc dish and the lq9 has flat tops. The earlier lq9 has better connecting rods with full floating pins, and both the later lq4/lq9 use this design. Both engines use the same block, crank, and heads. The 99 and 00 model lq4 used a crank with a thicker flange where the flywheel bolts on to accommodate the 4l80e tranny and newer engines use a spacer with the same crank as the other gen 3 engines. For more info and specific changes by model tear try inputting "lq4/lq9"(with the quotation marks) in the search here and on the performance trucks site(click the tab at the top of the screen for performance trucks).
