Just got my crank today...but it say's to use an eagle or equiv 6.1" rod?..where the hell can I find a 6.1" rod..or can I just use a 6.125" and design a custom piston? Thank's,
Carter

the 6.125 SBC will be fine. if you use a shorter rod like a 6.00", then the piston skert might hit the weights. eagle does make a 6.100 LS1 rod but it cost more. call eagle to find out for sure.
Eagle says 6.1" rod because that is a "like stock" LS1 rod......with a 4" stroke crank, just go with the standard 6.125" rod (either SBC, Lunati LS1, Carillo, etc....) and get the standard Diamond piston that will go with it (call Thunder Racing or LG motorsports and get your parts from them).

How are people using the SBC rods when they are offset? LS1 rods are centered. An offset rod will offset the rod on the pin and cause side loading and wear the piston. When I had the SBC rods, I turned them the way they are installed SBC style and it was a major offset where the pin side was very close to the piston.
Carter, let me know how things go. You know a few setups I am still thinking about. With the price of cranks relatively cheap in the near future, when I plan on building a motor, I might go the stroked route.

The big end is the same and the pin is the same, yes, but the big end on a SBC is offset (the chamfer side is offset) so when you install the rod, The big end is moved closeer to the journal center and moved off center of the pin. I just pulled SBC rods from my motor and it is very different from a LS1 (centered) rod. Thats why these rod companys have a LS1 specific rod. I had to install the SBC rods different from SBC style to make the little ends as close to senter as possible on the pins. SBC style moved the little end almost to the piston.
See what Im getting at?
I can snap some pics this weekend if need be

I see your point..hhmm never really thought about that...It should be ok i guess..but would deffintaly cause a massive side load...Eagle's new 6.1" rods are the same price as a standard h beam..or pretty close anyways...I will have to look into this further...That is good info though
Unless your rod bolts don't clear nothing is needed for a 4"stroke. You will need to use a couple of washers on the scavenge tray to clearance for the crank. You would need to get the whole rotating assembly balanced also.
