Default LS7 cam in LS1?

Can you put a LS7 cam in an LS1? If so, would the gain be worth it compared to an aftermarket cam? Maybe a noob question, but any input would be appriciated. Thanks.

I believe the LS7 cam has only 1 front bolt vs 3 on the LS1 cam. It also doesn't have the pickup for the sensor on the rear as it does on the LS1 cam.

LS1 and LS7 cams are not interchangeable because the cam position sensor positions are different.

...unless you feel like getting a gen IV conversion front cover, sensor and timing set kit.

Or just get an aftermarket cam and springs, then call it a day.

most ls7 cams are 3 bolt-only 1 year i believe was 1 bolt. You can use the ls7 cam in an ls1,but you do have to use the ls2 timing chain and frt cover and get a ls1-ls2 cam sensor extension harness. You would also need to upgrade the valvesprings. While the ls7 cam would make more power than the stock cam-you would be much better off with an aftermarket cam-which would probably be cheaper in the long run.

Based on what I've seen, the LS7 cam looks like a milder version of the CheatR cam with about the same LSA so it would probably sound stock in an LS1 but move up the peak power up a little past 6000 rpms.

Stock for stock to me is not worth it. Unless you are doing all the work your self you are going to have to pay some one to do all this work for probably a total net of about 15 to 20 rwhp when a well picked aftermarket cam can net you about 30 rwhp. I am also thinking that your going to need a 1.8 rocker some one will correct me if I am wrong.

230/211 .591/.591 1.8 rocker ratio
230/211/ .558/.558 1.7 rocker ratio

You are dropping a fair amount of lift just by going with the smaller rockers and the LS7 valve train is made to run with the 1.8 rocker ratio. the LS1/LS6 valve train is build to run with a 1.7 rocker ratio.

Bump for a second opinion on the rockers? I was thinking about doing the conversion to go with the LS9 cam, but haven't heard about a need to change the rockers.

I would think that anyone would be better off with a custom ground aftermarket unless going turbo then swap for the LS6.

Custom grind is great and all, but you cant order a custom grind for less then $100 like you can an LS9. The numbers on most of the custom stuff is just a hair off of the LS9 anyways. I have the Z06 now and am looking for a little more flow.

If you have to buy all new sensors and covers, chains, bolts....it adds up. I dont know much about the LS9 cam, it may be a direct swap.

^ I think the LS9 uses the newer style cam sensor and front cover too. I would simply buy a cam built around your application, spend roughly the same, and perform less work in the process.

ya why spend extra on all the conversion kits that will probably be weaker eitherways... a custom ground will produce more power/torque for less the cash and far easier install. simply not worth it for the LS1

The only reason I mentioned it is because your original post was "LS7 cam in LS1" not LS9 cam in LS1 and the LS7 is in the ZO6 not anything else and the LS7 ZO6 runs a 1.8 rocker ratio. If you where doing an LS9 then you should have stated that instead.
