Question C5R heads?

I've heard alot of talk about these C5R heads and how they can't even be used in some drag racing classes. I was just wondering what's so special about these C5R heads? Do they flow really good or something? and also, how come you don't see more people with them, are they not streetable or what? thanx alot.

the reason you dont see that many people with them is because of the price it takes to install them. they are the best heads you can have and most of the fastest top 5 LS1s in the world have them but these cars are also not very streetable. also you will need an expensive intake and they are way to big for a 346 car unless it is seriously boosted.

Yes, I have one that hasn't hit the track yet.

Correct, they have itty bitty chambers.

And yes, they have serious flow potential.

The 8 second ARE cars C5R heads flowed something like 380cfm

We decided to try some different rings (too much blowby with the super low tension rings) and convert to a dry sump system...all in the name of MORE FREAKIN' POWER!!!

What would C5R heads do on top of a regular stroker motor like mine? Assuming a sheetmetal intake were used with a 90mm TB say?

Thats it, change nothing else and still use 93 octane gas?

Raise your compression to like 15:1 or more..you'd def. have to use Blower pistons to lower the compression ratio....but hey..for that kinda flow and ur already building a motor...why not use blower style dished pistons and get that sucker movin!!

THey are HUGE port, 32-35cc, 11-degree heads. You'd definately need lots of motor, cam, and air to use them.

Let me know when you find fuel good enough to run this kind of compression.

its not about gas. its about the cam, the timing, the tune, the air, the driver, the load (weight/tranny/hp), then the gas....lol.

If you've heard of SB2.2 heads...thats what it would be like. Trying to throw a set of 2.2 on your ho-hum sbc after work. The C5R's need an intake, rockers, $$$ valves and guides, springs, etc, etc, etc. and with 2.15" intake valves...you need some room for them to open up...so 346's need not apply.

personnally, I'd like to see a solid cam 382ab try a set with a good intake, back to back with an LS6. that'd be cool.

I was wondering about this also.....Could a big enough dish be used to get the compression down to a normal level on the street (11.0:1 or 11.5:1) on a Darton 427?

I want to know if these heads could be made streetable with a agressive cam and intake to feed it.

short answer is yes. there was a thread a while back about a katech-built 427 with c5r heads (i think...). put out a little less than 500rw maybe? I cant remember at all. ****.

if you really wanna know. Call Katech.

BTW guys...these heads are like $1200 EACH.....BARE. You need 1.63" springs, the Ti valves, Jesel rockers, etc, etc.
