Default What in the hell noise is this?

Just got back the car from the transmission shop. I had it rebuilt. I don't suspect foul play. However, I just noticed the noise last night. Maybe there's a connection. I don't know.

What could this knock/rattle/whatever be?

that is a whole lot of noise and appears to be rattling faster than the engine is turning. Sounds like the torque converter bolts are all loose and hitting on the back of the block. You can check this by placing your hand on the plastic cover that's located below the starter. If you feel something tapping there then that's your problem. I wouldn't run the car much as whatever it is may cause severe damage if left unchecked.

Should I take it back up to the transmission shop? It's just a few minutes down the road.

It would be a good idea to have them look at it if you aren't comfortable checking for yourself.

Well, apparently, it's the water pump. That would explain the leaking coolant I saw last night. It did seem like the noise was coming from the front of the engine and the transmission guy noticed it, too, but I just wanted to make sure it wasn't transmission-related.

Anyway, how different is replacing the LS1 water pump than on the LT1? Is it easier?

That would explain why it sounded so fast. If you can or have changed an LT1 water pump then you are in for a pleasant surprise. The LS1 will almost seem fun compared to the LT1.
