Hey Shane from TR and Chris from Circle D, I have a question about the gears and the stall for this cam. My buddy gave me a set of 3.42's to put in since i have 3.23's, it'll help more. Which gears would work best for a 3400 stall? I do drive this car ALOT more on the street and down the freeway then down the track. Since I drive on the streets more keeping the best MPG would be awesome for the ideal gears, but I also want to rip it up in the 1/4 and be a high 11 sec car pass after pass.

Leave the 3.23s. There isnt enough difference between the gears to justify swapping in the 3.42s.

IMO they wont be worth anything at the track. Gears are a SOTP mod, not an ET mod

true but i don't need to drop my gas mileage to 14 mpg just to gain 2/10 of a sec, it'll be a high 11's car with the 3.23's or 3.42's anyway

I don't know about that I had the 2.73 w/ a 3400 stall in my Vette and when I went to the 3.42s it was a completely different car. I still get 32 mpg on the highway and the city well that dropped but it did wake her up.

You really just said that? Why do people switch gears then? I sure as hell wouldn't be wasting money on my 4.10's if I wasn't going to pick up anything at the track. If you can hook, a gear change will give you a definite improvement at the track.

First most people dont swap from 3.23s to 3.42s. So slap yourself if that what you think most gear swaps consist of. He wont gain anything by going from a 3.23 to a 3.42 except a non-working speedo. Thats a useless swap unless his 3.23s are messed up and the 3.42s are free. The higher gear he goes with a converter and street tires or DRs the harder its gonna be for him to hook. So indirectly the gears will make his car slower. Look and talk to the fastest cam only cars here on this site and they will tell you gears return the least reduction of ETs at the track out of any of their mods. And we are talking about a cam only street car so my advice was based on that.

Have a nice day.
hmmm i might just stick with the 3.23's then decisions decisions!!!!

I never said the swap from 3.23's to 3.42's would be a worth while mod. I agree it would be pointless. I was commenting on your dumb comment on how gears are a SOTP mod and not an ET mod, which is a DUMB comment. I will say it again, if you can hook then you will be faster with a gear swap. I guess all of the people swapping out gears do it for the SOTP meter huh? Makes a lot of sense d-bag. Regardless if it is a cam only street car or not, I'm sure he will take the thing to the track and will probably end up running a tire that will allow him to hook. Therefore a gear swap that would be WORTHWHILE would benefit him.

Are you really that stupid? I never once said going from 3.23's to 3.42's was worthwhile.

40/50 people in that list changed gears. I wonder why? Many people will tell you that gears are one of the first things to do. If they aren't such a big deal then why did you swap yours out? I guess I would be dumb to put 4.10's in my car huh? Gears will make your car accelerate faster if you have traction. If a car is making any kind of power on the street you wont have traction anyway. What you are arguing makes no sense and you sound like a moron.

By the way, you are in the 12's too big man. I'm done arguing with you here though Mr. Know It All. Send me a PM if you would like to argue and make yourself sound even more dumb than you already have.

Do not waste the time putting in the 342's. Buy some 373's and a 3000+stall. I have 373's a yank 3000 and a much bigger cam and i drive my car everyday of the week.

whats your mileage like? i know i wont get that great of mileage but i don't want to get 15MPG cause before the cam i was gettin 25 on freeway and almost 20 in city. plus where i live i really don't want something that'll make my car louder than it is goin down the street, the day this car totally retires from street use i'll through some 3.73's but not for now
