Not a dumb question as i just answered it in a PM. The 1x is used in everything (or can be) 24X. The 4x is used in everything 58X. If you are using the converter box, you will want the 58x ring and the 4x gear as the box changes both to the usable 1x and 24x signal.

I have seen the 1x used on the 58x engines and it only created some strange starting problems with extended cranking time. Then i have seen some not start at all.

Cliff notes: 1x is for 24x and 4x is for 58x.

You can use the 1x on the old style ls1/6 and the iron blocks with the rear cam pickup also because the engine then doesnt care what timing set it on it. Then, if you switch the LS2 cover, you are still....covered. The reason I say this is because some of the "LS1" timing sets get bought up so quickly that it is hard to keep them on hand. We may have a surplus of the "LS2" style that are a couple of dollars more, but they are readily avail instead of being on back order for a month.

We have them as well. They are avail in both the 1x and the 4x cam gears for 3 bolt cams.

SD7240 - single row adjustable 1x - 81.40
SD7245 - double row adjustable (with spacers) 1x 84.95
SD7640 - single row adjustable 4x 95.40
SD7645 - double row adjustable (with spacers) 4x 99.99

see reply right above this one.

If you use the new gm thrust plate, they come with a counter sunk surface for the bolts. Then use the new gm counter sunk torx head screw to put in there, then you will not need to worry about it. The whole thing runs about $25 for the plate and bolts. ARP does not make bolts for this thrust plate yet (counter sunk), so you still have to use the GM ones.

what kind of degree setting does the SD7240 come in?

it comes with a cut crank sprocket. can be installed straight up or from 2, 4, 6, 8 degrees advanced or 2, 4, 6, 8 degrees retarded. all on the same timing set with the same pn.
