Checking piston to valve clearance on 346
Should i use my new stock thickness GM MLS head gasket or use the old thats been squashed already?
Check it using the gasket or check PTVC without the gasket?
Use the clay method correct by squashing the clay and measuring the thickness?
What is the stock PTVC for intake and exhaust?
Thanks!
clay method is good also checker springs and a mounted dial indicator is good too...
general accepted clearances are .080 intake .100 exhaust...now some of the huge cams are in the .05x range so I wouldn't get to worried if you are a hair closer to the standard clearances...good luck man...
I'll check but would you happen to know what stock PTVC is? I'm just wanting to stick to the same if possible due to my cars a 6 spd and missing a shift not likely but still is possible and i'd like the insurance if ya know what i mean

Thanks!
I mean if you have a certain clearance with a baby stock cam and then change the duration with the si6 cam you are lowering the ptvc and the 5.3 heads are even tighter clearance than stock 241/853 etc heads...so how can you get back to stock ptvc...you can't unless u have some huge dished pistons...
stick with the .080 and .100...which I think you might be pretty close to or even below...unless the si6 has a big split...
my 230 230 111+2 with stock 241 heads not 5.3s with stock .054 mls was at .086 and somewhere around .120+...so you are running a bigger cam and smallr heads my guess is you will be tighter...which is okay just what are you okay to live with...
I know when running a ms3 237 242 113 with 5.3 heads and stock gaskets you have to request tsp to sink the valve seats more than a stock 5.3 heads to gain clearance...check and see where you are at...if need be change the heads or cam or just flycut...goodluck man
