Default Ls1 or ls2

I hear that an ls1 cant handle much over 550 hp with stock internals.
but if you change out the interntals(crank, pistons, rods... ect) will
this change the amount of hp the block can handle? will it be street legal?
or should i just say fuckit and buy an ls2 block for 1k and build off of that?

Im looking to get about 700 hp with f/i.
trying to build and exotic killer. Im in the military
and i have nothing else to do in my spare time

Im gunna be starting on this project in about 6 months

Let me know if there is anymore questions about it if i left anything out

It will be easier to do it with an LS2 block. The bigger 4.0" bore gives you an advantage and opens up more head choices for you...... Either block can easily handle 700hp.

If you don't mind a little extra weight get an LQ4 iron block for cheap and build that. It will be stronger than the aluminum LS1/2 blocks already has the boost friendly 317 casting heads.....

If your goal is 700 hp, you can get that with a D1SC and 347 cubic inches. Stock crank will be suitable at this level, all you really need is new rods and pistons. You can get some ported 317 heads that will let you target around 9.5 compression.

If you decide you need more power, the iron block built to 403 - 408 inches with an F1 Procharger should be able to take on most anything you will find on the road. Problem is as power climbs, so does cost of getting there.

My buddy Matt was pushing on a stock bottom end LS1 w/ 317 heads 620/690 rwhp/rwtq with a T76 single turbo, E85 conversion through an M6 & 10lbs boost. So 700 rwhp is attainable through an LS1.

Again the LS1 was stock except for the heads w/ 109K miles on the clock. If he would have gone forged like he wanted to before he wrecked 3 days ago 800+rwhp was going to be easy. The T76 he had was rated for 1000HP

The LS1 block and crank has been proven to hold 1,000+ rwhp. All you need is forged rods, pistons, and good fasteners. So either the LS1 or LS2 can easily meet your goals.

Agree !!! and I'll go with an LQ4 6.0L iron block, they are super cheap and will handle anything !!!

alright well since i can still with my ls1 block I don't feel the need to buy
a new block. Once I get my full list of mods I will be doing to my 00 T/A
I will post it here. I plan to be doing my suspension and brake setup
before I even begin to touch the engine.

Since it does have 130k miles on it, any extra precausions I should take on the block?
everything else is going to be new. Including the t56.

I would send it to a machine shop with LSx experience along with your pistons, rods, and crank, for the appropriate prep work to be done. This would include boring/honing to the correct finished bore size, and balancing the rotating assembly.
