Default Is this an issue?

I just completed pulling my first set of heads. When I pulled the heads coolant from the rear of the head drained out and into my rear cylinders. Is this a common accurance? I drained all coolant and removed the radiator, is there usually residual coolant in the rear of the engine? I'm going to increase the size of the tranny bracket in order to raise the back of engine to be more level.

Oh yeah, you always get coolant down into some of the cylinders and even the head bolt holes. You should immediately dry it all up with paper towels and lint free rags. Might want to check out this guide, especially about how to clean out the bolt holes:

Be sure to get all the coolant out of the boltholes... If not it can cause the block to crack when the new bolts are torqued down.

Just clean out all the coolant and spray some WD-40 in the cylinders. This will keep them lubricated and free of rust while you are doing the head swap.

Why do you want to raise the tranny crossmember?

Be sure to change the oil before starting it up! You don't want to run the oil that's in it since the coolant will have run down the cylinder into the pan.

I just used a Shop-vac to get most of the coolant, and it even sucked some out of the bolt holes too. For the rest I just twisted paper towls and soaked it up. No cracked block so far...

Yup, just clean that up with some towels. You want to make sure that all bolt holes are dry. I sprayed some cleaner in the holes and uses pieces of towel to clean/dry the bolt holes, and then I blew air in there.
