The stock bolt is a torque-to-yield design - once they've been properly torqued down, they should not be reused. I know some people have, but it isn't the right way to do it.

ARP makes a balancer bolt that can be reused (it is not a torque-to-yield design), but costs a fair amount more than a new stock bolt from GM.

Do not throw it away it is used as part of the re-installation tightening sequence. You will first need an installation tool to push the damper back on the crank until it bottoms. The old bolt is then installed, tightened to 240 lb-ft and removed. Next you measure depth of the crank snout and if it is OK the new bolt is installed, tightened to 37 lb-ft and then rotated an additional 140 degrees.

I wouldn't reuse for your final assmebly but you can use it to reinstall your balancer or to turn the motor over without a balancer on it. We have both GM and ARP on the shelf. GM - $4.99, ARP - $27.99.

I would not recommend that this be done unless you mean as required by the GM procedure as opposed to pulling on the balancer?
