Head question
So i just picked up a LS1 out of a 2001 trans am with 43k on it. Ive heard that 243 casting heads are the best flowing stock head. My engine has 241 heads. How good are these heads compaired to the others? Thanks

241s are not a bad head with the right combo period. If I was going to spend money which I did on 241s I would not do it again. The 243s or 799s which are the same thing the best way to go. Invest your money wisely. Spending the same amount of money and doing the exact same thing to both 241s or 243s you will see more gains with the 243s than the 241s. Everyone has their opinion yet numbers do not lie. The other thing is if you choose to go with a light valve train using the LS6 valves you can't with the 241's because those valves are about .050" longer than what the 241 heads will allow.

All ls1 heads (241, 853, etc) in stock form are within 3-5 hp of one another. Switching one for the other is an exercise in futility, unless you have them worked over.
243 and 799 heads are LS6 castings, with notable improvements in the ports and combustion chamber. As stated above, you can expect about a 20 hp improvement in those heads, stock vs. stock. FYI, your 2001 LS1 engine comes with the LS6 intake, which is 7-10 hp increase over the '97-'00 LS1 intake.
