You cannot be on the bandwagon if you are the OP asking the question. This comment was not directed at any one person, but stand back and look at the way the thread was headed, and then a complete 180 and it is headed the other direction, if I am crazy, or see things other than for what they are, that is just me.

Still looks that way til I posed up about it...

My answer is none of the above. I had a car tip off of jack stands once and know someone recently who had their Vette do the same thing. With a lot of boatyards around, I picked up some large wood blocks and use those for keeping the car in the air when working on it. I won't go under a car that is on jack stands. Just my $0.02.

...if there is a bandwagon here I hope it's heading to Northern Tool and not Harbor Freight

http://www.harborfreight.com/cpi/cta...emnumber=91039
http://www.harborfreight.com/cpi/cta...emnumber=38846

rather than looking at the websites in general how about you guys look at the brands i'm considering, which ones are better in that regard?

all seem to have good reviews on their site and other sites offering the same thing

Yeah, yeah we all get your point. Whatever. Bottom line is jack stands are jack stands. They all come from the same bullshit Chinese company, some with prettier labels and heftier prices. However, quality of something like a floor jack is different. Dont buy stuff from Harbor Freight you arent willing to replace again after 1 use. Problem solved. We all know its cheaper ****, you aren't saving us from anything

personally me? i'll go with harbor freight and here's my reason

and those are my heads sitting underneath it. now if i didn't trust those jackstands that haven't moved in 6 months i wouldn't have put my **** under the car. their grinders may suck but i've never had a problem with their jack or jackstands, usually it's someone ******* around with something or not maintaining it properly is when something ***** up. to each his own though

3 ton jackstands aren't tall enough. I don't own anything HF, so I can't comment on quality.

I agree, you need 6 ton minimum. Some of their stuff is crap, other stuff, not so bad. Its hit or miss...

I've used my hf low-pro for years without a problem. A few of my friends have had various product failures but all my expirences have been good ones.

Here's how I view it, when buying tools for work I always want the best because there is no time for failure and downtime costs money

When buying tools for home though buy whatever you want

Personally I have no experience with the HF jacks or stands and the only stuff I use from there is their heat shirnk tubing. It is a hit or miss place I know people who use their stands with no problem but I hate to buy stuff twice

No jack stands or anything, more or less grinders where the motors fail, or impact wrenches that leak.

They sell some of the same stuff. HF has a lot of chinese made stuff, but so does Northern. I'd put money that my autozone low profile jack is the same as the HF. It's getting hard to tell where stuff is coming from anymore and the chinese stuff keeps improving.

Gotcha, I did not know where you were trying to go with 6 ton comment.

They do have some of the same stuff, but northern also sells better stuff as well. I did not say I shop at either, I just said Northern Tool is better than HF, and that in my opinion. I will usually spend more and go to Sears or something.

If you buy a jack from Sears they throw in a set of jack stands, at least they used to. I'd check that out.

I just checked, here's link. They have another set for $109.00 rated a little higher that includes a creeper too:

I just bought a bunch of air tool from HF and there quality is good. all work good. Prices 25-50 per tool and if one breaks, go buy a new one. if the tool breaks with in the first week or 2 of use I will not get the same kind. HF has different lines of tools. As for a jack I have an autozone one and it sucks. Once it is finally done I will be upgrading it with one from harbor freight! Jackstands. No clue what brand bought them off of craigslist ofr cheap. used and cheap and have had them for 5 years not one problem!
