I dont really believe in "you will be satisfied for now and then you can go bigger later on." To me why not get it right the 1st time so you wont have to waste money on buying another 1/swapping (labor assuming you dont do your own work) unless you just have money to waste. A nice cam should be at least a 228/228 that you would really love more as a starting cam. Although there is nothing wrong with the 224/224.

I'm plenty satisfied with my custom bre 224 cam. Lopes pretty good and now with my ported fast 85mm and underdrive pulley I'm guessing around 430 rwhp with a 224 cam and unported 243 heads.

How is it trying to find a parking spot in a crowded lot w/ that spool? Just moving cars around at the shop was enough for me to just have a spool in a track car that sees some street time. Only for racing though.

Dahaha, that's the worst part of it... It's like parallel parking. Without the parallel.

I don't like doing predictions, but once again. You will not be dissapointed. There will be a NOTICEABLE difference, and if you cant notice it...You have a VERY bad vac leak somewhere or the car is in limp mode because you broke several sensors and fried the knocks.

So why the thumb down icon on your post? Afraid you will want more too soon?

The thumbs down thing was an accident, I guess. I don't remeber doing it. As it turns out, I am super stoked with my 224. It's on a 114, so I missed out on a little more lope, but it runs like a beast compared to before. Thumbs up to COMP for this cam. I will go bigger eventually, but I will need a built trans and probably a 9" before I do heads and more cam. Overall, very satisfied.

Look at the numbers in my sig. I went from 12.4 to 11.43 by adding the 224r on a 112, mild portjob with stock valves(did mill a little and go thinner gasket), plus the summit stars with skinnies. I don't think cutting a second is anything to laugh at. Sure I could have went bigger, but I'm happy with what I got out of my setup.

Seriously though when do we ever just do it once.....
I know for a fact I could have built the biggest, nastiest, LSX car right out of the box and it still wouldn't be enough. I think most would agree.

Does anyone know the difference between the 224r and the 228r? I think I read on here it was only around 5hp.

did any of you have to flycut with your 224's? I'd like to do a TR224 and a thinner gasket on a project I'm working on.

Cool

I didn't have any issues with ptv clearance and I get the Texas Speed version of the 224. TSP 224/224 has lift at .581, the thunder racing 224/224 has lift at .551. A little more lift, but works really well on stock heads.

I have heard that the Thunder Racing TR224 makes better power that alot of other 224*/224* because of Thunders proprietary lobe profile. any truth to this or just vicious rumors?

Same here. I was told I could go as big as .230 lift and .600 dur before I'd need to worry about P to V. I don't know about thunders cam making better power, I believe that TSP cam is XER.

When I was looking into mine I was told if you are torn between two cams go with the one that has the faster ramp rate. Sometimes this ends up being the "smaller" cam. It's all about what works in your setup.

I'm not sure about any of those rumors. My way of thinking is, the more lift I have on my cam,the more fuel and air I can pull in, which in turn, equals more power. Ask around, maybe some other folks will know more about the lobe pofiles.
