What is the mileage on this engine? Lifters are good insurance on a high mileage motor, especally where you might end up with a cam over .600 lift at the valve. The stock rockers are as strong as you will find, and lighter than any roller rocker. Save the stockers and reuse them, or rebuild them with one of the trunion upgrades like Harland Sharp or Comp Cams offers.

I hope you aren't set on a gear drive. A quick search shows that noise is a real issue, unless you plan on running a carb and distributor, the knock sensors would not agree with your plans:

Gear drive for LS1?
gear drive?
Gear Drive?????

But if you just have to have one...

Anyone using a gear drive instead of a timing chain?

Lastly, wait to select your springs and pushrods until after you have the heads cleaned (resurfaced?), have choosen your head gaskets and have your cam. All of these factors effect the proper length on the pushrods. Since LS engines do not have adjustable valvetrain, the pushrod length is critical to the proper lifter preload.

Wow. That kinda gave me a headache trying to decipher it all. All I can contribute is max power means nothing if you hit it after the race is over. Under the curve is where it's at.
