Default 5.3L connecting rods??

does anyone know anything about the 4.8/5.3L rods? i had one in my hands today, and they look substantially tougher than stock LS1 rods, and almost similar to some i-beams i've had. (alot like the olivers, save for the weight diffrences.) weight on these, would be the big downside, but if they're stronger, thats a BIG plus, as they're pretty darn cheap (free in my application.) does anyone have any experience running these? i wonder how they would work for an on the cheap nitrous build w/ good pistons?

Vince, the 5.3 (LM7), 5.7 (LS1, LS6), and the 6.0 (LQ4/LQ9) all share the same 6.098" connecting rod. The 4.8 (LR4) uses a 6.278" rod. The LR4's pistons are the same as the LM7's, so it needs a longer rod to keep the pistons coming above the deck surface ~.008" as it uses the smaller 3.27" stroke.

That's excellent info thanks Jason!

That would mean the 5.3 (LM7) uses the same rods & crank. Can a 5.3 block be bored to ~3.9 bore?

Hmm...Can you post a pic of this rod...?

The only rod that is a little "beefer" than the 5.3/ls1/6.0 rod is the 6.0 LQ9 rod and it will be easy to tell, as it is full floating on the pin end.

The 4.8 rod is longer and looks kind of weaker (because of its length) than the 5.3/ls1/6.0 rod...

The rod you were holding sounds like it is different than the stock rods due to your comment about them looking like an Oliver rod...Is the beam profiled like an Oliver rod...?

Here is a link to a pic with all the Gen 3 rods on it (scroll about half way down)

Does it look like any of them..?
