I wouldent freak out guys.. I had one spring break. I wasnt even planning on doing anything about it other than buying a replacement but I guess its better that I send the whole set back.

The guy at PAC sounded genuinly shocked that it broke

Can you shoot a closer photo of the break (both pieces)? That looks like a bending break and its the weakest spring section in bending.

Glad you decided join the darkside and cam that beast.

(i remeber back on the org when you first introduced that RX7 you said you wouldnt cam it ) lol
I did?

I dont think I ever said I wouldent cam it. Initially when I first started the project I was goign to mirror this setup

http://www.streetfire.net/video/ls1-...outs_69455.htm

He had a TREX cam in it and was spraying something like a 200 shot on the thing in the end and beating liter bikes and nipping at the heels of busas

So I had a cam in mind from the beginning. I think I said I wouldent throw heads on it because I'de prob throw a truck manifold turbo setup on it before I do the heads, and if I wanted more power at that point I'de either do heads/build the bottom end or go larger displacement.

But thats far far in the future if at all, seeing as turning corners has been pretty fun. Thats why I have brand new coilovers sitting right next to me

Could you let us know exactly what PAC says when they get the set in?

Unfortunately the break is out of focus. Guess I am bothered by the location that broke. Did the retainer fit correctly in this spring?

Yeah my tuner likes the idea of a procharger more than a turbo for a stick car

He deff wanted the whole set back to test out and said he'd ship me a new set immediatly. He just wanted to make sure it was actually their springs and not cheaper springs put in their box.

I dont think thats the case. Like I said I bought from a sponsor so I think it will work out just fine. This guy seemed very concerned and wanted to test out the springs immediatly.
Actually I would also give him the name of the sponsor and any name that you might have gotten because if they put in a weaker spring or another spring in for the PACs is bad business.

I did give him the name of the sponsor. If it turns out the springs arent what I bought then it'll be an issue but honestly I doubt thats it.

The PAC 1518's and the PSI 1511ML's are the two best beehive springs you can buy for our motors. Something is just amiss here and I wouldn't be concerned with using the new 1518's when PAC sends them to you. I would be very interested in what PAC finds and how things turn out.

Not that I think its a problem, like I said I was just gonna buy a replacement spring and move on with life before making this thread.

But if anyone else has these springs and is worried then the batch # 36104 made in 08/19/2009

I'm gonna send em out SAT if I can and if not monday. I'll let you guys know how they handle it.

So I wanted to update this thread as I said I would. I sent the valvesprings to Jason at Pac and he had a chance to go over them today. He is kinda at a loss for words. He attributed it to a complete fluke. Which in non engineer terms I think meens.. I have no clue why this broke and I cant explain it.

He said it was the very first 1518 hes ever had fail period in the last 4-5 years he'd been there, and that they do use that valvespring in lemans cars. He was also scratching his head because thats not the normal place for any beehive springs to break, usually they break about 180 degrees from where this one broke. He did mention quickly there may be a small divot or something near where it broke.. but honestly it just sounded like he was trying to explain it to himself in passing and just racking him brain over it.

So even though one of my valvesprings broke honestly after going through this I feel more comfortable than before the valve spring broke putting them in my engine. I knew high performance valve springs are all brittle and a bit finacky the fact that these are used in Lemans cars and considered one of the absolute best springs you can put in an Ls1, makes me feel quite a bit better and as long as they get the new set to me before this weekend I'll be 100% satisfied which he said should be no problemo.

BTW just wanted to update this thread in case people search for it later.

PAC got me a new set of valvesprings and some hats/ t shirts. And they got them to me before the weekend which is when I said I needed them. I got the new valvesprings in with zero issues and got the motor back together. Hope to have the car back on the road in a few weeks.

I was going to ask if you used one of those shitty claw style compressors, but it seems it was just a fluke. That's nice of them to take care of you like that.
