Default Cant Buy a single Valve Spring?

I just got some PAC racing springs to do a cam install and when insalling one of them. One of them broke.

the spring wasnt even compressed enough to get the retainer/locks in place when it snapped. It wasnt even cold outside hitting about 70 degrees that day in new england.

Thank god that time bomb didnt go off with the engine running

Even though this looks like a manufacturing defect I was just gonna pay for another one and move on with life, only to find out the company doesnt sell singles just new sets?

So first does anyone have a spare one of these sitting around with low miles?

I am going to contact the company plead my case and we'll see how they respond. If thats true though I'll be pissed and they can be sure I will be replacing the valvesprings with another brand.

I'm pretty sure you can get individual springs from some of the sponsors. If not try here.

I would call them direct and I bet they will send you a replacement. You might have to send them a copy of your invoice from the sponsor but I bet they will get you one without too much of a hassle.

I don't want to **** in anybody's Cornflakes here, but if one of those springs broke during installation (and it wasn't installer error), I'd be paranoid about a bad set/batch of springs.

Just sayin...

Seriously if you broke one installing them I would not trust the batch IMHO but i guess is better to break one in the act of install, then to install it and have it break and kill the valve train.

I would even suspect that PAC may want that spring back to look at the failure in case there was some type of production issue.

Yeah, wow. Thats typically where beehives break, while running. You shouldnt have to pay a cent to have it replaced.

I wouldnt run those springs. Call PAC, they will probably want the whole set back for inspection.

Call and talk to PAC about it. They may want the whole set back anyway. I'm sure it will save you a lot of worrying about it if ya just give them a quick shout.

I actually just got off the phone with PAC and they echoed what you guys were saying. I happen to grab a guy named Jason and I forget his title but he said he actually works on testing and spring development and in 13 years he's never seen one of the 1518s break. He deff wanted the whole set back to test out and said he'd ship me a new set immediatly. He just wanted to make sure it was actually their springs and not cheaper springs put in their box.

I dont think thats the case. Like I said I bought from a sponsor so I think it will work out just fine. This guy seemed very concerned and wanted to test out the springs immediatly.

wow, which install tool are you using?

the type that grabs the springs and you spin the top as it clamps down?

or one that bolts up were the rocker goes and pushes the spring down ?

BTW is the cam going in the RX7 or do you have another car ?

Yeah its goin in the RX7. I was just using a pretty standard gm valve spring tool. The one that has a long handle and bolts on to the rocker mounting hole.

I have tims tool in the mail though.

The guy at PAC said he's never heard of a set failing and I think he said those are their premium springs that they run in lemans cars.
