ls9 cam compatable with ls1/6 blocks

Default ls9 cam compatable with ls1/6 blocks

hey guys. im uninstalling my torquer 2 cam for something more smoggable. I was planning of asking Patrick g for a custom grind cam, but i heard about the ls9 and how inexpensive they are. i was wondering if the ls9 cam are compatible with the ls1/6 engines. If not, what do i have to convert in order to make it compatible. Keep in mind that i will be planning on doing force induction later on in the year. I do have supporting mods: prc dual springs .650 lift., ls7 lifters, n-motion billet timing chain, ported oil pump. etc. I will be taking off my longtubes and putting stockers back on.

The LS9 cam is a single bolt. It also has no timing ring on the back for the rear cam sensor. You would first have to get the LS2 front cover with cam sensor extension harness. Then you would have to find a 1x single bolt timing chain set.

Just because it works well with a supercharger on LS3 heads there are a few things to think about. A) the LS3 heads are completely different than what you can put on the ls1/6 block B) the cam also performs well in a larger forced fed CI engine but I am not sure as to how it would work N/A in a smaller CI engine really (of for future FI). The cam is designed with alot of things in mind. MAX PERF N/A is not at the top of the list.

The LS6 cam is prob in your realm of what you want to do really.

If you plan on forced indution, you will still have a hard time meeting smog really.

LS9 cam is 3 bolt just put one in my motor

Wow, I am suprised, but yes it is. Looks like gm did have a good thing in mind with them. I was looking at the LSA cam and expecting them to be the same because they are the same year model etc, but the LSA is single bolt and the LS9 is a 3 bolt.

Even I am learning something here.

Hey kellysmith, so if I look for a stock Ls9 cam, it would be compatible with my stock timing chain set right? Also, what sort of gains did you get? Thanks in advance!
