The 5.7's are pretty limited, however I've always heard you can bore(hone) a 98 block to .005" and .010" for the 99+ blocks. There obviously won't be any hp gains lol, but at least they can be rebuilt.

boring cuts out lots of metal. honing takes out very lil but leaves fine lil cross hatches that is the final step.

Exactly, it's two different processes, and usually requires two different machines...

that is an awesome vid. I have another friend at my unit, he has a '99 T/A. He told me that the camaros ls1 engine could be removed from the top but T/A's had to be dropped from the bottom only? sounds alil weird to me but is it true? I had just brung up the subject of a cam swap. I thought u could just remove the radiator to make space to do the swap, is a engine drop neccessary? wth...

his T/A is badass but I know he's a cocky arrigant ******...My advice/opnion wouldn't matter to him. one of those guys you can't them ****...

Although I took my buddy who has an Evo X for a ride and was highly impressed, I think he might be reconsidering those 4cyl's and converting him to bigger blocks...his evo 10 is nice and all but it's not even close to being worth $30K

With the $$$ that you're buddy is spending on a rebuilt...he sould just buy a short block from a sponser...and slap on the heads if their in good condition, it will be around the same amount spent.

^^^ who is a decent priced sponser for blocks? or crate's? If my compression test looks bad enough, I may just go with a new block cause I'm already missing an ear off the bottom of the block for one of the starter supports. ( and since LS1 are aluminum, hard to find that welder, plus I would still need the ear lol )...had a shop bolt a bracket up for me, Good, decent Temp fix.

I did my cam swap without dropping my motor. All I did was remove the radiator (and all parts blocking that). It was a fairly easy process, although I had removed the entire top half of my engine (other then the heads), But that's because I was also doing an intake manifold swap. Shouldn't be hard to get the cam out and in.

A little bit of a mess, not to bad though. Just drain the radiator before you remove it. That guy is an idiot, he has no clue as to what he is talking about. I have 4 block off plates for my manifold, I got spares for some reason. Try Speedinc.com or Texas-Speed.com, those places are great and often times are cheaper then WS6store.com. Plus they are very helpful and usually have great deals.

We all seek to stay competitive just to keep the market lively and to let people know that we do care about how much these dang parts cost ya'll. Let me know if there is anything I can do to help.
