Rocker Arm Bolts or Studs
Can't decide which to go with. 6 of them were rounded off when i took them off so i had to use a bolt extractor kit.
Currently my setup is:
T1 cam
7.4 push rods
patriot dual springs
stock 241 heads
and i'm waiting for my comp cams trunnion upgrade kit in the mail.
is it worth going with arp studs and making it bullet proof?
don't i need guide plates if i go with studs and won't that also change my push rod length?
is there anything else i'm missing?
if the stock bolts are good does anyone have a part number?

Bolts are fine and if properly installed shouldn't present a problem. Proper tools are required to prevent overtightening and you should use a six point socket, not a 12 point. Also, good quality in this case is important so buy a really good six point socket and set it aside for the rocker bolts.

yes i was using a 6 point 8mm socket but a few were rounded before i even started so i'm assuming the guy before put them on with an airwrench or something smart like that. the others just rounded as i was taking them off cause they were on so tight.
any advice on whether i should use studs or order new rocker bolts... if stock rocker bolts then a part number. i've called a few dealers for the part number and they won't give it to me because they aren't allowed to and i wanted to order them online and save some money.

I looked it up and came up with part # 12560961 per my 2001 parts manual. Here's a link to SDPC's part. Rocker Bolt
GM Parts House is slightly less though.

You need a straight thread stud. Not sure what part you are looking at but most rocker studs are designed for stud mounted rockers (which the stockers are not) and they flare thicker at the bottom where they contact the head (look at the photo on page 46 of their new catalog and you will see the flare and hex head for tightening the stud). A stud like the one in their catalog will not work. Do you have a part number if it is a new part?

that makes sense. i know most aftermarket rockers use the studs so i wasn't sure if they would work for my stockers as well and appparently they don't. i'll just stick with the stock bolts and call it a day. thanks again vettenuts.
