Probably just annoyed though in the end.
If I were you though. I would take the valve covers off and just look. You don't really have to know what you are looking at to spot a problem in some cases. Wiggle some things around and just make sure everything seems tq'd down. look for debris. Also, when you changed the oil was there anything stuck to the drainplug? Maybe like fine metal grit or chunks of metal?

Ok update. This morning it did it's normal tick on start up and once it warmed up the tick was gone at idle and only hear it with the radio off and in complete silence between 1100-1400 rpm.

I have a 2003 2500HD with a 6.0 that has done this since I got it if that makes you feel any better. Has 175,ooo miles on it now. I thought it was lifter noise but never worried about it. It hasn't gotten better or worse. I use Rottlela 10w40. It is noticeable but not by non car guys.

M1 5w30 doesn't do very well in used oil analysis tests from ls1's. I refuse to run it in my car. It's not what it used to be. It's a very light 30. Penzoil Platinum 5w30 is a better oil in the same price range. I personally prefer to run RP XPR 10w30. It's about 12 bucks a quart though and it's not the stuff that you can buy in stores. It has additives that make it non-emissions compliant so you have to order it.

Yup sounds like the previous owner covered it up with thicker oil. The only way to reallyknow is to pull the valve covers and inspect the powertrain.
It does sound like piston slap if its faint and only at cold start up.

ArticMissile,
Since you're in So.Cal. (it's never cold here, and it gets quite hot in summer), you maybe should try Mobil-1 0W40 or 10W40 instead of 5W30...
Also, you can also safely add 1/2 quart more than the dipstick hot level.

I changed the oil to mobile 1 10-30 non synthetic and it's still there. Gone/hardly noticable at idle but ticks from 1000-1600 rpm. If I am going into the valves ect it would be a shame if an after market cam found it's way in there. Took it to a local shop they said give it a couple days see if it quiets down but they were leaning towards the sound coming from the timing chain. The tick follows the rpm not sure if thats a good thing or bad thing. Getting a video of the sound now

I ran TropArtic 5W-30 over the winter and when I switched back to Castrol GC 0W-30, I picked up some lifter noise. You're not crazy in noticing an increase in noise with M1 5W-30. Different oils can make a difference, and M1 5W-30 is notorious for being a very thin 30 weight.
The previous owner of my former 01 T/A was a fanatic about using M1 5W-30 with very frequent oil changes. But I found the engine extremely noisy with that oil in it. I switched to M1 5W-40 TDT and it quieted down quite a bit.

here's a good thread on the subject:
https://ls1tech.com/forums/generatio...holy-crap.html
It sounds like mine, piston slap.
Here's the deal, I also bought my car and changed the oil and it did the same thing, but the previous owner used conventional, so its a bit thicker, synthetic oil brings out the piston slap more, I did the same thing as you and changed oils to try and trouble shoot, it's not going away, however...
Pennzoil Platinum appears to quiet my motor down over any other synthetic oils I've tried, so your options are to try that next oil change, or use conventional, or a thicker oil like a 40 weight, but I wouldnt really suggest that, the noise is still around but not nearly as noticable as m1 was, m1 runs pretty thin.
It's annoying isnt it? but it's common and we all live with it.
Also, after you put like 500 to 1000 miles on the oil, the sound gets less annoying, for me anyways, kinda strange.

As stated above sounds like piston slap. It is annoying, I have it in my 2000 silverado and several LS1 cars. Some do it more than others. Somtimes a top engine cleaner can lessen this slap a bit. Carbon builds on the piston domes and makes matters worse. GM has a belletin on this for the LS motors.
Some oils will mask the slap a bit, but it's just a poor wrist pin placement which is impossible to get rid of unless of course you rebuild the motor and go to a different piston. Wiseco has addressed this as have others in the industry.

I saved it for this reason, as when i saw it, it made me feel a ton better too.
and you're welcome.
Now go enjoy that car
I'm getting my 3" electronic cutout put on tomorrow! cant wait.
If i were you, I'd just use Pennzoil Platinum in the future, it's got really good UOA's ( used oil analysis ) and is a full synthetic.
Pennzoil Ultra came out not long ago aswell, i think it's a bit better then PP, i'm trying it next change.
