Is this bad or just the nature of an LS1?

They said that ls1's are prone to lifter tick. I have this lifter tick since i bought the car last year (30k miles ago) and i've notice the tick is getting louder, which conserns me. Its probably not bad now but it might get worse later down the road and eventually ur lifters might fail. I say if u have the time and money, do a cam swap and change the lifters while ur at it.

Mine does that. I can't hear it inside the car unless the windows are down.

I have a little bit of it; it is really pronounced on my brother's 02 - it ticks loudly for the first 20 minutes or so after it's started. My buddy's 00 has a deeper, louder tap - we're not sure if it's lifters in his case. Pretty typical for LS1's. And as for your other thread, the choice of oil can really make a difference in how loud it is.

Read the multiple page thread that beats this issue to death. BLKWS.6 when are you going to find time to enjoy your car if you are always finding things you think are wrong with it? I assume that 5 or 10 posters verifying that the tick is on their cars is enough for you to put this to rest....until the next noise lol. Take care man.

Yea man you just gotta realize the fact that these engines are not your typical refined car engines. They are not quiet BY DESIGN. Granted some are more noisy then others but all machined things have slight variations. If your using good oil and filter, not using a ridiculous amount of oil or losing power in any way no worries. Don't try to find things wrong with it, when or if something goes wrong it will definately find you.

Or, you could just give the car to me. That way, you won't have to worry about those troublesome sounds you keep hearing. I thought your Dad had already put your mind to ease about this or was it the 3 or more page thread about how an already proven oil had ruined your engine?

Its cool, I just found a vid exemplifying it. If its a normal noise (like everyone has proven it to be) then its cool. I just finally found something showing what it was. If its a noisy motor, its noisy. Apparently the tick doesnt matter when it comes to longevity and so I really dont care now that I know whats up.

On a very interesting note, one guy said his did the same thing AFTER switching from 5-30 valvoline dino oil to 0-30GC. I think on my next oil change I will try a dino oil and see if it matters. Im not going to worry with it, but if it prefers one oil over another, why not?

I apologize if I came off sounding like a dick. You have an attention to detail that may lead to paralysis by analysis. I hope you can enjoy your car and that nothing is wrong with it.

I am a detail freak. It is not really clinical imho and I joke about it a lot myself. I am going into the medical field, and I damn sure bet my attention to detial will ally more fears than it causes over the course of my lifetime
