It would have to be all 16 pushrods/springs. Noise is uniform and minute. Just a pushrod engine. Dad listened to it and agree's. My 5.0 does it too and it has done it since day 1 and 0 miles. LS1's are just all-aluminum and you hear it a lot more.

Are you guys talking about the fast rattling sound it makes as the revs come down at 15 seconds, then at 30seconds, then again at like 38 seconds? If so, My car does the exact same thing, odd thing is, it is only really pronounced when the oil has <1000 miles on it, after that you can barely hear it. I really hope thats the sound you guys are talking about and calling it normal because this is something that has always bugged me and I could never really explain it to people over the fourms.

my car does the same thing, Only after i started using GC, but oh well. Its took my oil consumption down whatever i had at the time to nothing and gave me a louder tick, tick. In a year im replacing the lifters anyway so they just have to hold on if they are bad.

why does everybody say they will change lifters when they change the cam? will you guys be removing the heads? u have to take the heads off to change lifters... i would save money for a H/C swap 
BTW my car does the same noise... did it with stock cam, and samething with bigger cam.. when i get heads, and better lifters ill let ya kno

Well I sure am glad to hear most ls1's make this sound. My car has done it since the first oil change, which was RP, stopped after some miles, second oil change with RP same thing, then M1 0w40 same thing, then now to GC 0w30, same thing again but with miles it goes away. I just don't understand this, it doesn't make sense to me that as the oil is in there longer it goes away, doesn't oil thin out if anything over time?

Piston slap can indeed be a tick and not a gutteral knock. When it's cold it will do it, but if a piston is designed with too much taper-even when warm, it won't ever swell "enough". GM did this because they have to deal with customers driving in extreme temperatures and it's better to make a bit of noise than to seize a piston-which becomes warranty time.
The way you can tell is it won't do it under load, but under light load and transient throttle, it will come and go. It make you want to floor it all the time to get rid of the noise.
*Some* forged pistons are quieter than O.E. cast . It boggles my mind that people complain about 4032 and 2618 forged when the factory pistons are worse than both.
