224/224 .581/.581 112? I know that many of you guys are running 918s, but Ive just heard too many bad things about them and I wanted to go with something different. So I was thinking of going with the Manley because Ive heard they make really good products. However, theyre only good up to a .600" of a lift, just as the 918s are. Are there any other springs that I can use that will work better than the Manley and the Comp 918s? Ive heard that Comp has some stronger ones, but that you have to modify the heads for them to work. I want a single spring set-up that requires no modifications. Any of you guys running the Isky springs? If so, are they any better than the Manley or Comp? Did you have to modify anything to run those springs? I beleive theyre the Isky 295-Ds. Well just let me know and thanks in advance.

The isky springs are supposed to be very good, however they are $$$. Most people use the 918s. There really have not been as many problems with the 918s as it might seem. They had a bad batch, which is now fixed. Not to mention that you can get 918s for an excellent price from Thunder now.

I run 918 springs up to 6800 rpm with similar cam specs. No titanium retainers here either. I wanted to bring up that it is unlikely most cams will reach actual rated lift when running because hydraulic lifters bleed some of that lift off. This can be copntrolled with blueprinted lifters and correct oil weight, but most springs are not getting as close to coil bind as they are on paper.

I would like to know what all these "bad stories" are that you mentioned about 26918s? Other than the bad batch that went out, I've seen most people have great luck with them. The two sponsers that I deal with most from this board for buying parts still recommend 918s above all others for single spring setups. (Speed Inc. & Thunder last I've talked to them).

I've seen 918s hold up to some extremely aggressive setups; like blower w/ N2O and 7000rpm shift points and a .558 lift cam with stock retainers. That was in a friend's LS1 car I helped to build last year...

I feel that 918s are a very good spring.

I never said that the 918s are bad or that they have alot of problems. I just heard with the lift on the cam that I will be running, that they wont last very long. I wanted to go with a well known spring no matter how much the price is. I rather get a really good spring the first time, instead of buying a cheaper one over and over because they break. I didnt want to go with the 918s because everyone and theyre mom has them and I wanted to go with something different. The first thought in my mind were the Manley springs. However, they too are rated at a .600 of a lift. I dont know for a fact, but Ive heard that they Manley springs are a bit better than the Comp 918s. But since they are both rated at the same lift, I just dont see how they are. So I wanted to know if there is a better spring to run with that cam that I wont have to make any major modifications. Ive heard that the Isky springs are really good, but I need some feedback on it before I consider it. Is the extra money Im paying for those springs going to be worth it? Are they rated any higher in lift? How much longer will they last than the Comp and Manley springs. The reason why Im asking all for the best springs is because I dont want to replace them every 10,000 miles. Someone suggested that I should cyro treat them and that process extends the life of the springs. But I dont know of anyone or any shop around here that does them. So would you guys please help me out. Thanks alot for your help so far. By the way, what do those Isky springs run?

Rev 1116 dual springs fit without modifying the heads. Comp is also coming out with a dual spring setup that drops right in. Give Rev a call they were working on a better outer spring that should be out soon.

I have plenty of time to decide on which springs to go with, so hopefully by the time that I get the money saved up, they will be out with dual drop in springs. I just dont see how they have dual ones out as of right that you dont have to do any modifying to install them. Do you have any sites that have pictures in them so that I can have an idea how it works. Ive never done a cam swap on a LS1, so I wouldnt know. Thanks By the way, are you sure on the Rev drop in dual springs and if so, how much do they run? How much better are they then the Comp or Manley. Are the Isky springs single or dual? Who makes Rev springs or is that the brand name? Oh and one last thing, I know that duals are better than singles, but can you give me a semi-detailed explanation on how it is? Thanks

The Isky 295-D is a single spring
REV = Racing Engine Valves. They are out of Fla I believe.
IMO, you can't beat the Comp 918s. I had a set of them with a .591 lift cam revving to 6800. No probs at all. They also lost practically 0 spring pressure after they were removed.

Im sure that theyre pretty good springs, but what Im worried about is the life with the Comps. My second thought was the Manley, but they are both rated at the same lift. So then I was thinking of going with the Isky, but Im not sure what they are rated at. Out of the Isky, Revs, Comps, and Manley...which would you guys go with if money wasnt an issue? Lonslo: How long did the Comp 918s last you with that cam? Do the Revs or the Isky require any modification to the heads for them to work.
