This is what I used (mini die grinder). Its pneumatic so you need a decent compressor. The bits are sold at different places, i would google it, I dont think im supposed to put links in here. I also got a porting kit with sanding rolls etc... Search here for home porting or DIY porting, there is some good info.

Here is what the carbide bits and sanding rolls look like.

Why? All the research I had done eveyone was polishing the exahust to keep carbon buildup to a minimum. The intake should never be polished, for fuel atomization. I finished the intake with 80grit sanding rolls, some would go to 120grit

I'm all for CNC porting. But I have to hand it to you, you did a VERY nice job hand porting, and your flow numbers are very nice for the work that you did.
My hatt is off to you my friend! Enjoy some new found HP!

Contrads they look really good. And you didn't just hog them out. Plus your flow numbers
are pretty good. I had similar flowing 241's with a Comp 216/220 114lsa cam and went 11.78 @ 116 mph in a full weight WS6 A4 and a Vig.3600 plus the usual bolt ons.
Best of luck and very nice. You don't always need 300+cfm and a big cam to run well into
the 11's.

Good write up but I am not familiar with this. I do have 853 heads out from 1998 Trans Am. I want to have porting and polishing on the 853 heads. I can't afford to pay new +$1000.
I ll post with pixes here.

absolutely awesome job, thanks for the link to this page, fantastic work, got to spend the time to get the results and this was a job that definatly has the good results, yeh i was told not to really touch the intake side due to what you mentioned with the atomisation, just to take the rough edges off rather than smooth the intake ports, but to do what you've done with the exhaust ports as you obviously want the exhaust gases to escape as quick as possible.

Take a pick and knock that last thread thats hanging on the pedistal bolt hole out. Judging by the pix the port looks 212-215cc in size. Everything esle looks good for a home portjob.

Man, I really need to get off the fence and dive into my heads. I picked up some 241 heads and 5.3 heads to play with a long time ago, but I keep wavering. There's no way I can afford any of the aftermarket castings and the rest of the mods I need, so I should just go for it.

Can't wait to see how these perform for you. Congrats on a job well done!

Thanks bud, I actually used the link in your sig as some of the research and good info I found on here before I got started on mine. I've been at a stand still with getting these on the new motor im assembling (funds) but that motor should be together soon and I will post with updates.

Well, I reckon you won't mind that I added this thread to that post.

Good luck with your combo!
