Default Anyone running the TSP 383? Opinions/comments?

I'm looking into getting a 383, and TSP seems to have the best price for a shortblock... Unless others have opinions on a good place to buy?

Anyone that has this motor, what are your thoughts on it? How has reliability been? What pistons and rods did you go with?

I already bought the TR CheaTR V.3 cam (219/330, .605/.604, 117lsa) because I had planned on sticking with my 346, but my plan has changed... Is this cam going to be too small for the 383? I want a smooth/stock idle and great street manners. I already have 62cc AFR 205s on order. I want it to be reliable, I'm not looking for a max effort setup.

What are your thoughts/opinions?

I guess you mistype 213-230!..anyway, too small for this stroker. I think everyone is going with wimpy cam on strokers. You wouldnt be a max effort with something like the Texas giant it would be an animal. Torque monster can be cool, but I think the car has to be rev to 6400-6500 with a aftermarket build to be worth it, just my 02.

I would not hesitate going with any TSP product, never heard a story of someone getting riped off.

I read some post about BlancoSS(sponsor but forgot the shop name) doing great job with strokers...depends on what youre looking for.

Why not a 402ci for the same price???

Personally I would go for the LS2 402 For the little bit more money. They offer plenty piston options to get the compression ratio anywhere you want it using the heads you already have. It will run fine with the cam you have, but it will run out of breath at a fairly low RPM(compared to what most are used to).

The reason you don't see alot of 383's is that the iron block 408 is cheaper. It just seems wrong to pay more money for less cubes.

Thanks for the replies thus far... I was looking 383 because I want to stay with an aluminum block. I've spent a good amount of money trying to lighten the front end and don't want to put it right back on with an Fe block.

The reason I wasn't looking too hard at the 402 is because I already had purchased cometics for the 3.905 bore, as well as an edelbrock 2-piece timing cover. I'm already going to eat some money selling my cam and getting a larger one, so not sure I want to have to find buyers for the gaskets and cover as well.

But now that I looked at the 402 closer, the conversion kit is less than I was expecting, so that actually might be a viable idea. I guess I can sell my edelbrock cover, and ls6 valley cover and make up some of the difference... Decisions decisions! Lol bur keep the thoughts coming...
