crank end play .008 -.009 to much?

Default crank end play .008 -.009 to much?

iam building a ls1 and i just got the crank set in torqued and set the angles of the bolts properly and set the thrust bearing. now iam coming up with .008-.009 of crank end play, is that to much for a fresh engine? in the book it says .007 is the most endplay, any help apprciated thanks matt

What I read was on a fresh motor look for about .004. However, .008 or so was acceptable. My old motor had .040

wow i just rechecked the end play and i must of had to much to drink last night lol iam coming up with .006-.007 endplay so i guess iam in the ballpark now correct?

It would appear so. Up to .008 is acceptable.

did you seat the thrust bearing properly?

install all the main caps and bolts. then torque all the inner main bolts to 15ftlbs and tap the crank rearward then forward. this aligns the thrust surfaces. then torque all the inner bolts to spec. then do the outer bolts first tightening them to 15 ftlbs in sequence, then to spec.

i appolagize. the final tap with the mallet should be in the forward direction...

i just read it in my rebuilding GM LS series engines book.

ya i got that same book, and i did do it that way, iam just gunna order new bearings, i think i wacked it to hard thanks anyway

I've learned differently as well, but I don't think it really matters which ones are snugged.

I'd let it ride with .007-.010. I beat the **** out of an old motor in one of my previous cars that had .015 end play. Never had a problem (not that I condone that, just sayin...)

screw it i just ordered a set of main bearings, this motor is gunna make some power and i dont wana tak any chances, thanks guys
