HELP before i buy need to know A TON OF INFO
Not bragging but i have a cobalt ss/sc and a ton of bolt ons and = to stage 4-5 my car dyno at 294whp and 268wtq and while fun am just board with the car. No crazy burnouts, drifting, and powerslides. My friends 2001 transam was so slow and he himself dynod at 410whp and still lost but then he got 373 and now he walks me from a dig =( still get him from a roll.
I guess my questions and goals are to hit 500+ whp without N2o or boreing?
The one i was looking at getting is a 98 with slp loud mouth and thats it what are the problems i hear 98s have? i cant seem to find real facts about this year.
the mileage is 124k but ive met the guy really old man and mostly freeway miles and prolly really low abuse. im wondering what are good cams and heads to get? is it even worth porting the stockers?
I was thinking about adding 1.75 inlet and 3inch outlet headers ? long tube of couse an problems with long tubes.
do i need a new rear end for 500whp or will gears be fine? will 373 work or do i need to bump up to 411?
Whats a good clutch to handle this kinda whp and do i need to replace anything else? do lighter flywheels make a good difference?
DRIVETRAIN ok? does anything need to be replaced?
Now for keeping the car on the road what all is need to keep this car a bit tamer like toruqe dampners. And other stuff like solid mounts?
THanks guys sorry for the poor spelling
there are so many questions in the post it's hard to know where to begin.
You may want to try searching around for some answers first, then ask specific questions. That way people will reply, otherwise I doubt you'll get very many responses because to answer your questions we'd have to repost most of Ls1tech itself...
I'll start with:
Yes the ls1 powerplant is very reliable, there are endless camshaft and head choices, search and you'll find thousands of threads on heads and cams. As well as thousands of bottom end setups.
Trans whether auto or manual (depends on your liking) but the auto's have been known to be better for drag racing, while the 6 speed cars get better gas mileage and are better roll racing typically. Again this depends on what rear gear you're running which boils down to the common 3.73 for auto and 4.10 gear for the 6 speed.
In most F bodies the weak link in the driveline is the rear end. To that the common approach of attack is replacement by: 12bolt, 9 inch, Dana60 rear, or custom fab by MWC for the wealthy (LOL).
Best shocks are "koni's" available through Sam strano www.stranoparts.com
best springs are "Strano" available through above link as well, Same goes for sway bars.
*again- this is popular opinion*
I'm also a little concerned that you beat a 410rwhp f body with your sub 300rwhp cobalt, that doesn't seem right even from a roll. ????
Good luck!

You come in here asking for help/idea and its obvious you took no time researching anything what so ever.
There is a whole ******* thread about how to reach 500rwhp.
Problems with 98's talked about a million times on this site.
What good heads and cam to get? Did you look in the section for this, there are another million "what head and cams should i get" threads.
You want to start trash talking this site again you are ******* retarded, take some time and research the forum, it full of TONS OF INFO. Then come back and once you found a setup you like, post about it instead.

Also, just about all knowledge with the Cobalt can be thrown out the window because Fbodys are to totally different animal fella. Not trying to sound like a dick bro, but it's the truth.
This sticky which is at the top of this section will answer everything.
