Default What cam!!!!

Here's the deal I've picked up some AFR 205 heads, and currently have the ms4 cam in a stalled auto (4000). Well a buddy of just got some afr 205's and also has the ms4... Well now I am looking to get another cam other than the ms4.... Anything out there that will help me get the edge on him? I was looking at the vindicator cam, its has longer duration and smaller lift. But bigger is not always better... In short I'm looking for something better than the ms4 that will work with these heads...

The EPS 236/248 will do better than the MS4.

Are your heads milled at all? If not, doing so is a cheap way to bump compression for some additional hp/tq throughout the powerband.

Or even better, from someone who specs cams for a living.

If you think they are bad, go ahead and make sure Ed Curtis is in that pile too. Its not rocket science, but you cant just throw numbers on paper and pretend they will work well. Understanding valve events will without a doubt make you more apt to being able to ballpark spec a camshaft. But seriously, talk to Geoff at EPS.

Geoff at Engine Power Systems

or

Bret at Bauer Racing Engines

Those 2 seem to have a grasp on what works in the LS engines.

what about the Vindicator Cam... The thing is I don't want to wait two months for the cam to be made... That about how long I waited on my lt1 (slow build so no rush) Just looking for something to give me an edge....

Seems to me like there are plenty of predator z or pat g cams out there getting the job done. just becaue they dont do it for a living doesn't mean they do not know what they're doing

It's not terribly hard to pick 2 lobes out of a comp catalog on a standard lsa/advance and "get the job done" in an LS engine. If by get the job done, you mean "good enough but not ideal."

It's the ones who are making 30-40 ft/lbs more torque below 4000 rpm, a similar or better peak, AND carrying longer, those are the cams a "professional" would design.

Look into 2 recent dyno threads. A custom EPS cam in a 454 making a high torque flatline and an amazing power curve. Then there's the little 224 BRE cam making almost 450rwhp on 243 that ONLY have a valvejob, the cam is HUGE on low end torque.. and the cam carries power to 6800! Those 2 cams were designed by professionals. You aren't going to get anything NEAR that with a typical off the shelf grind you see everyone on here debating between.

I'm sorry if that ruffles some feathers and disturbs the group think that goes on here, but it's the truth.
